Hi,

I want to install a fuel polishing system on my boat. Something that can also be used as a fuel transfer system between 2 tanks. Space is fairly limited so I don't think the Alfa Laval type would fit.

Any recommendations please?

Yes, I probably should have said. As K1W1 stated, it's a Cheoy Lee 63 with twin 3208 Cats. Twin tanks of 750 gal each. 12 volt DC system with 110/220 volt AC.

Existing primary filters are single Racor 900's per engine.

Any advice please?

Hi,

There are small footprint Centrifugal Separators available.

If you are really stuck for space Joe you could and should look at fitting a Coalescing Type Filter into the line between pump and tank such as

I am not personally familiar with the layout of the tanks on your boat and don't know if you have a Day tank as such or if each engine sucks out of it's own tank.

If you don't have a problem with microbiologic growth in your fuel now it may be prudent to add some biocide when you fill up. The " fuel bug" can grow just as well in cold northern climates as the tropics. this is shown by the fact that it used to affect the lube oil in some North Sea Oil Field Vessels that sailed out of Aberdeen.

If you can send me a rough drawing of your Fuel System I will try to draw you a simple way to add either a Seperator or a Filter system to your engine room.

Thanks for your assistance. I don't have a day tank and there's a good manifold arrangement on the forward bulkhead for drawing and returning fuel to either tank. I've sent you a PM with a link to a tiff format image of an original shipyard drawing with the piping arrangements.

I've removed the stb generator so have a bit of extra space. I can also use the manifold valves that supplied this gen set to feed the polishing system.

I will add some biocide soon once I decide which type to get, but that's another question!

Have you thought about 'off-line filtration?

With a system like this, you won't need a separator anymore and ALL your fuel will be clean.
