What about smart windows?
Dear boat owners,
I am a student at Vlerick Management School in Belgium and was assigned to work on an in-company project for a Belgian company. In this project I have to investigate the feasibility of electrical tintable windows (smart windows) in marine. In the project I have to check the possible interest from boat owners for this kind of technology.
I thought this forum could help me with this…
A short introduction to the product:
Smart windows change transmittance from 70% to 5% on demand by electrical potential (< 3V). This means that you can change the tinting of your windows depending on the weathering conditions. The technology is suited for heat rejection (lowers the amount of solar heat entering the boat) and antiglare purposes (against solar reflection).
Comparable technology has already been offered in different applications like
sunroof for cars (by Ferrari SuperAmerica): <Link Removed>
and Architectural windows (Velux): <Link Removed>
Would this technology interest you?
What would be the most important feature: glare control, heat control, switching speed (the speed to change from transparent to dark could be in minutes or seconds). Are there other properties that could be important?
Where on the boat would you believe this could be interesting and why?
When would you consider taking this as an option on your boat: if this would mean an increase of the boat price of 5%, 2% less than 1%?
Thanks in advance for your input on this. I really believe this is a sexy product which could fit nicely on a Yacht. I hope you think the same about this, but let me also know when you do not agree at all!
Kind regards,
Annie
PS Dear Carl, administrator, before you kick me out, I wanted to say: I have read your message on the code of conduct and I hope that I did not offend you or the forum with this post. It is not my intention to do so and I believe that this new coming up technology could be of interest for the members from this forum.
