Good, bad or indifferent, I would like to hear any experience regarding MTU 10V200M93 diesel engines.

Service – maintenance – operational – noise levels – vibration - any issues..??

I am considering having these engines installed in a 75 ton boat.

According to my experiences in MTU/DD warranty support and cost of maintanence I will never EVER recommend an MTU/DD product to any of my future clients due to a terrible warranty issue with them on 2 different boats. I would go with CAT, who stands behind their products and warranties things right here and right now.

OK..I will accept that. Now I am down to CAT or MAN.

I would recommend CAT C30's or C32's depending on what you're looking for. The MAN's will be a little quieter and consume slightly less fuel. BUT, parts are more costly as is servicing. The servicing is also more extensive and expensive. Cat's will have more torque, parts and certified mechanics can be found worldwide, easier to fix (less complex), most of your usable parts (filters etc.) are common throughout many of the engine series and can be found easier. The Cat's will weigh a little more then the mans. In all of the yachts I have run, the MAN's seem to do better in fast vessels (expresses, etc.) and not so well suited for heavier/slower vessels due to the torque differences.

The 1500's will give me 20 knots cruise but for the most part I will likely run at either 16 or 12. I operate in the Pacific North West. The boat name will be Memor Esto....
