    I'm in the process of helping setup a 47' vessel for a 14 day fishing trip into Baja Mx going as far as Mag Bay. The vessel only has VHF radio and Sat TV. The vessel will have cell phone service but that is spotty in Baja. What would be some available options to get weather info in the remote anchorages where cell reception is limited? I understand that HF radios has been the way to go in the past but that seems to be old technology. Thoughts and ideas? Thanks

    XM or Sirius weather add ons for some electronics are just about all there is, excluding ham nets, SSB weather sources, and weather fax. One friend sitting in Turtle Bay waiting out Hurricane Octave uses a weather routing service over cell phone. He has great coverage with AT&T along the coast.

    Check out Commander's Weather routing service. Commanders' Weather

    I've used them for years and found them to be very accurate.

    If you check on the XM/Sirius be sure to ask them whether the satellite will pickup from where your going. I know at times even in the Southern Bahamas mine will not work and was told it was out of satellite coverage.

    When the Nordhavn 120 was delivered across the Pacific a few months ago they used Home: Ocean Marine Nav Welcome to the Ocean... for all their weather forecast data with great success.

    Perhaps you can communicate with them by vhf??
