I have a 1974 40' Post that's great mechanical condition but the entire aft from deck up is rotten!Twin 555 Cummins.
    Fiberglas bottom Wood above waterline!
What should I do Trash her or rebuild?
If I rebuild anyone know a good rebuilder in VA.?
    Thanks

    Hi,

You have to ask yourself is this boat worth spending the money it obviously needs to bring it back to good shape. I wonder why the bottom was fibreglassed?

That might hold a few more nasty surprises for you.

The 555 Cummins is not an Engine that many people would get excited about as it has a bad reputation for a general lack of reliability and short TBO's.

Most people who do these huge rebuilds seem to do a lot of it themselves, I would hazard a guess unless you can do this in your case you might well be throwing good money ( lots of it) after bad.

I think you'll find this marina has a good rep and is capable of doing the work involved http://www.atlanticyachtbasin.com/. However I have to agree with K1W1. Doubt it's worth the effort.
