Head tank discharge pump and operational details

2002 Tiara 4000 Express.

The Tiara manual states it is not equipped to discharge sewage overboard (when off-shore of course). However there IS a diaphragm pump in the compartment beneath the trunk and it looks like a head tank discharge pump to me. There is no switch for that pump (that I can find).

I need some of the coastal saltwater folks to enlighten me. Is that pump for discharging the head tank? Where are the controls? Any idea what it would take to connect it?

What on earth is a trunk on a yacht? It might very well be a macerator pump to pump sewage overboard. It probably was dealer installed. It might just run off of a macerator breaker on the breaker panel.

Do you have VacuFlush heads? It could be the vacuum pump for them/it?

Tiara owners will know what the trunk is. It is an aft storage compartment, that opens out onto the swim platform. Inside the trunk is a hatch to a systems space below waterline, hard up to the transom.

I'll clarify my o.p., there is no circuit breaker on the main AC/DC panel, no breaker on the engine room DC panel. There is no switch to operate the pump.

Yes, the vessel has Vacuflush heads. The vacuum pump is also a diaphragm pump but is beneath the sole near the galley.

Are there hoses connected to this pump? If yes trace them out one should go to the holding tank and the other to an overboard valve. Having determined that this is the case I would trace the wires back to their origin. If they are not connected to anything you could wire to the panel to an unused breaker, or add a new breaker. Is the pump a Sealand pump and does it say T-Pump on the label, if so it is a transfer pump.

You might find that there is a slightly more nautical term for what you call the Trunk.

I might, but lazarette isn't it. Tiara calls it both a trunk and a garage, interchangeably.

I assure you that if it were easily traceable I would have done so. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Given the pictures of one of these boats shown online I would call it a garage or lazarette myself, as the dealer isn't consistent with their name for it I have to ask myself if this is an indication of other non nautical practices on one of these.

I don't think anyone wrote that it would necessarily be easy to trace the plumbing and wiring of this pump even if you are able to look at it and get your hands on it.

Given this can you imagine how hard it is to trace/identify/diagnose by others who are not able to have the benefit of such a close encounter?

As posted earlier- Have you asked a Tiara Dealer for some assistance with this?
