| CAT 3412E problem
I have 2 CAT 3412E with 1350 hp each on my boat. I have a problem with the port engine.
When the engine is in drive, the engine going at 1.300 rpm maximum. If I accelerates, the engine does not endeavor and remains at 1300 rpm.
If I positioned the reverser in neutral and accelerates, the engine quietly goes over 1300 rpm.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English
Marco

I have no idea how your engine model is run, but modern electronics sometimes put the engines in "limp mode" if something is wrong. Could be anything from cooling, to blocked fuel filters to low oil in the gearbox...? If nothing is shown on the dashboard, you can have a technician connect his laptop to check for problems.

Hi,
Do you have the ZF Two Speed Gearboxes and or Trolling Valves fitted?
Do you get any heavy black smoke when trying to get her over 1300 rpm in gear?

Temperatures, water levels and oil should be ok.
Yes, i have a ZF gearbox with drive and reverse gears.
When I try to go beyond the engine stops in 1300 and accelerating further, remains to 1300 without endangering.
Can I buy the diagnostic software from CAT?
Thanks
Marco

Hi,
What I meant was two forward gears not forward and reverse.
I am not sure if you can just buy diagnostic software that you can run on a laptop of if you need communication modules and a CAT Box.
From what I remember of those early Electronic Engines the Service Tech Electronic Box was like a normal green plastic CAT Toolbox that just had a panel and electronic guts in it.
Do you get any smoke when trying to accelerate in gear?

No no, i have only forward and reverse.
If i accelerate with the gearbox in nutral (no forward and no reverse) the engine goes quietly over 2000 rpm.
I have not seen black smoke.
thanks

Hi,
There is so much that can cause problems like this I think you would be best served by getting a CAT Guy to come along with his box of tricks and tel you what is wrong with it in double short order.

I agree, get a CAT tech out to diagnose it. It sounds like a Turbo to me, but it could just be a computer issue. It's too hard to tell without seeing it.

Last weekend the technician came and fixed the problem.
It was the pressure sensor of the turbo. He replaced and now everything is ok!
Thank you all for your help!

Hi,
I am pleased to read that you got it sorted easily and hopefully at a reasonable cost.
Thank you for posting back with what went on, it may well be a help to someone in the future with a similar problem.
Enjoy the rest of the summer on your boat.

glad you got fixed, do you have teh CAT electronic displays at the helm? i wonder why they didnt' give a you fault message
also, on the 1400hp 3412E I have on the boat I run, after a start in the ER, teh red warning light will flash a number of time indicating the error code. check the manual, that cbna be a helpful indication of what's going on.
