Hybrid Propulsion System Monitoring

Hello,

I'm preparing my senior project now and my thesis subject is about "Hybrid Propulsion Systems and Monitoring with Scada"
So, I try to understand all system, How is it working? This is my last semester at Electrical Engineering and I am double major student with Naval Architecture and Marine Eng..

I have designed the machine room and yacht. Especially, I am searching all of documents Ferretti Zero Emission Mode. I didn't understand shaft system that is so chaotic to understand for me. You can find some pictures machine room, electrical motor and sight from top. Is there any idea how is the system working. The position of electrical motors are so interesting. How are Diesel Motor shaft and electrical motor shaft connecting.

Welcome to the forum, Serbye

Might I suggest that you go back and edit your posting such that you attach the images themselves, rather than a link to an image hosting site...much more pleasnt to view. Look down below the text portion of adding a post and you will see 'attach files'...'manage attachments.

I am interested in this hybrid subject as well, but I am unfamiliar with the vessel you speak of. I will have to go back and look at it.

You might also do a search on this forum for the word "hybrid" as both a word in the title of a subject thread, and a word in the text of a subject thread. You might be surprised what you find.

Hi,

I concur with what Brian has written above.

The images are painful to open with all sorts of pop ups and other junk and even then they are about as clear as mud except for No2 on the list which looks like some sort of V Drive/Gearbox to me.

By the way the original reply to your post came from a guy who has a more than passing interest in Hybrid Propulsion.

It appears to use a system similar to the one Steyr has developed. The engine is clutched to the rotating element of a motor/generator. When direct drive on diesel power alone is desired all power is delivered to the propeller shaft and turns the rotating components.

If it is desired to charge the batteries then the rotating component becomes (most likely) the generator field and delivers power to the shaft and the batteries. When in zero emissions mode, the diesel is secured and declutched, power from the batteries is fed to the rotating element of what is now a motor.

This is how most hybrid cars work as well and the technology is well proven but its economic value on a boat is certainly debatable.
