Mist Cooling Systems

    I've seen a few mist cooling systems over the past few years. From what I've seen, they very effectively drop the outside temperature by several degrees, they don’t leave you feeling damp and they use surprisingly little water.

    They're particularly popular in the Phoenix area where it’s hot—but it’s a dry heat.

    Does anyone have any experience with these devices? How well have they worked for you? Do they work in high-humidity areas or have they only made the problem worse? Are they difficult to install on a yacht and how well do they look and work once installed? Are boats just too windy to be effective?

    A lot of boats have these mister systems and they work quite well.
    It's the lack of breeze that causes humidity & heat to become bothersome, hence the usefullness of the misters. If it's breezy, it's comfortable. You're looking for an evaporative effect.

    Yes I have misters on my sportfish. They are located in the cockpit and are great when it is extremely hot. I'm located in Fl.

    After I posted this post, I thought it was moved. But after I couldn't find it so I assumed it was deleted.

    Thanks for your post CSkipR since I found where it was.


    I have a few questions, if you don't mind:

    Did you have your mist system installed?
    What companies do you know of that make and install them?
    How cost effective has it been?
    Does regular old tap water work in the system?
    How has it held up and how easy is maintenance?

    1. Yes, a rep for Boat Misters installed the unit.
    2. You can google for additional manuf.
    3. Not sure if cost effective but sure helps keep us cooler during the summer months.
    4. I rarely put tap water in my boat. I have a watermaker and try to use that water (softer & less minerals). If you softened the water I'm sure it would be fine.
    5. The system has worked fine with no problems for 3 years.
