Zincs????

Just got mine out of the water today. Both rudder housings were shot! Having them both cut out and new bronze units installed. Rudders would move back and forth about an inch each! No wonder I was taking in water!!!

I am putting another coat of Micron CSC on while it is out. I noticed that there is a hodge-podge amount of zincs installed and I was wondering what you all have done for zinc'ing your steel hulls? I currently have one on each rudder, and 4 on each side of the keel. Is this correct? More? Less?

That is growth on the bottom. Not rust! lol

Thanks!!!

Oh, and my CAPAC system is still hooked up. It fluctuates between .1 and .6-.7..... Why would it fluctuate? And should I just disconnect the darned thing? This is the first time I have had it out and I discovered it was heavily zinced, and the CAPAC was active.

BTW, no corrosion on the hull at all. The rudders had sustained some corrosion damage in the past, but are workable.

One of the anodes on the hull has lost the fairing around it that smooths it out. Anyone have a spare? Or do I need to "build" one out of Bondo? Right now it is just an anode in the water.....

Still have not heard from anyone in regards to zincs...

I had 8 total on the keel, 1 on each shaft, and one on each rudder. The shafts were the only ones put on correctly (bare metal). ALL the other zincs were put on OVER a barrier coat and several layers of paint... They seem to last a lot longer that way.. Doh!!

Right now, I am planning on replacing all the zincs and making sure they are to bare metal. Then I will unhook the CAPAC and not use it any longer. The paint on the rear of the hull had bubbled off.....

For those of you who unhooked yours, how many zincs are you using, and where are they???
