In my admittedly limited experience, they gather dust in both back and front office spaces, and as you quite rightly guessed, book cases too.

The models, again in my limited experience, cost several thousand Euros to commission, and therefore represent a sizeable investment, especially for the smaller design companies, so they hang on to them.

Yes, one might wonder... My guess would be that they obviously end up in the future owners office somewhere. Mind you, if there are any left homeless I'd be more than happy to give them some prime shelf-space in my office.

Many of the marketing models we build for Christensen come back to us after they sell. We then give them "refits" to reflect owners changes and given to owners as gifts (just like the attached Lady Joy model). So they do end up in some people's offices. That is probably where many other models end up too.

I've built hundreds of model cars in my day. I've been scouring the internet for a nice kit of a megayacht but nothing. The only thing remotely nice is the RC Moonraker kit offered by Graupner. I'm sure there has to be a few of these works of art collecting dust and in need of a proper home,,,

Thank you.

I have an interest in design in general, and it can be somewhat frustrating finding information about yachts, as it is typically less easy to come by than in other fields. This is completely understandable of course, these are personal possessions, and it is the duty of the industry to ensure the private details remain private.

It can be vexatious, however, when all that is released of an exciting design project is one or two low-quality postage stamp sized images, or a model which might be photographed if you are lucky - even for concepts where privacy is not an issue.

I extend my thanks to YachtForums for providing such information as is available, and for photographing the models for us.

Peter

I am active on a dozen different boating sites. And YachtForums is unique in the scope of its contents. A whole different ball game ... we owe Carl a lot ...

PSDO, As many mega yachts are custom creations for specific owners, I imagine the model kit manufacturers find it hard to justify making a kit of one. Although maybe one of the "biggies" would have enough "fan appeal" one day like Pelorous, Octopus or some of Oceancos new ones, hobbyists will probably end up with a kit of Lex Luthers' yacht first though!

yacht models

Thank you so much for posting the pictures of the models at the show,it's one of my favorite subjects. maybe there could be a thread permanent for yacht models and people could post pictures they take at different shows, builders etc.

I really likes the vripak3. anyone know if that is a conversion of a tug/supply vessel or a new design using them as a basis?

Of course the oceanco's are fabulous as usual. they have a real knack for design.

Thanks again

I love the clean, uncluttered lines of the Thyssenkrupp "Lisa" and "Stryker".

Oh and the Lurssen Concept post 32 is very nicely done as well.
