OK, I ran 100 points through a vector program, and all 100 points have the same shadow angle. This includes 20 points on the shaking rope. So I personally believe this to be a true picture, as the amount of effort to produce the shadows correctly for all aspects is too high imo.

Other info: I do not believe a camera phone was used, as the shutter speed of my camera phone did not produce the freeze of the water as in the photo when I tested this by dropping a brick into a bucket.

However, my compact digital Fuji film camera did produce the same freeze, so its shutter speed was fast enough, so it may be possible.

It also took me eleven attempts with the camera phone to catch the splash, as there is a delay in the camera phone as it figres out what to take a picture of. The Fuji Film camera got the shot first time.

lets just say - somebody got very lucky holding his cell right on the yacht in the right moment - i think that's what's photography all about isn't it?

We eclipsed yesterday's "most users online" record. This morning, prior to YF's server crying uncle and crashing, we had 2753 people online. Might have been higher, but it took 30 minutes to reconfigure the server to handle the volume.

In 24 hours, this thread has received over 20,000 views! And we still have over 1200 people looking at it!

I think many hearty thanks surely must be in order for the gent that snapped these pics. They have undoubtedly brought many newbies to the forum to have a look at the photos.

Carl, I wonder if it might be interesting to see how many new members sign up for the forum in the one week period following the original post, and then compare to how it stacks up historically in terms of other weeks of high activity. My thought here is that perhaps, if a record is broken, there might be a reward for the photographer and original poster in terms of some YF gear or something of the like?

I heard about this one last week in MC, it has evolved into a classic tale of woe with many questions and answers needed to resolve what I suspect is an insurance write off with non-qualified crew and poor equipment used meaning a distinct possibility of non payout and ensuing law suit. In my experience it pays to keep it simple, leave the experts to handle these unloads and use only the Best known independent arrangers, paying a little more for better service ensures no headaches! My thoughts are with the company that arranged this, its going to be an expensive summer for them!

This really is an unfortunate accident and I feel for those two guys on the aft deck - how terrifying! Glad they survived it with only minor injuries.

The only splash we hear is of our divers going in the water to secure the supports...
