Oceanco Y701 - Construction Story

Moving to the main deck, this wide area just aft of the walkway will become a dedicated tender garage...
Continuing forward, this is the starboard side walkway along the main deck. Notice the cardboard flooring EVERYWHERE, to protect the decks during construction. To grant future access, Oceanco has integrated panels throughout the ship, such as walkway cieling panels shown here....
Some details...

In every wall, every floor and unseen nook & cranny's... there are miles of wiring and plumbing hiding behind decorative panels, marble flooring and overhead valences. Much of this is taken for granted by the uneducated, naked eye. Often a boat is judged on aesthetic appeal, when in fact, it should be appreciated for the artwork and engineering underlying the more visible items.
Another example is the garage... it's not just the wiring under-lying the insulation, it's also massive levels of hydraulic hoses, pumps and cylinders that facilitate its every day use. For example, look at the slides located at the top of this picture for deploying the tender. There's a lot more to this than bolting sub-components in place!
Another example of hydraulics... this is the foundation for the elevator lift that will soon carry passengers from the staterooms below to the skylounge above. If you stop and think about the integration of just *this one* feature on Y701, you begin to get a better appeciation of the enormous engineering that goes into buildings yachts of this magnitude.
This room will soon become the crew mess quarters. Long before appliances and interior decor is added, the systems that will supply power, water and other vitals must be integrated... invisibly and safely.
It's a small thing, but... prior to painting, every piece of exposed hardware must be masked off. This might not sound like a big deal, but every bit of this tape and it's residue must be removed afterwards... on 100's of components. No small task!
The following pictures are in random order, but show many of the engineering internals. This picture reveals some of the heating, cooling and ventilation ducts...
It's difficult to predict the exact length of wiring that will be needed to reach its final destination as it passes thru and around structural components, thus rolls of wire hang as decorative ornaments during the construction phases.
Insulation for this room (believed to the observation lounge) is complete. It's hard to believe all the work that is involved... just to reach a stage where interior build-out can begin.
The build out and integration of sub components starts with cutting the metal to shape, welding, grinding and then fitting doors or hardware to check for tolerance, fit and function. In this picture, the aft deck wetbar (shown earlier in it's primer stage), gives an example of what the entire boat looked like prior to priming.
Again, this picture was taken prior to priming, but it shows much of the metal work leading up to the priming stage. It also shows some remarkable engineering... because this is the port side tender garage. You might ask how the tender will clear the structural support to the left? It's hinged!
More examples of metal... molded by torch and hand. This will be one of the two staircases leading from the skylounge deck to the sundeck...
A close-up of a port side walkway gives an indication of the labor involved in marrying so many pieces of metal. This is just one small area. Do the math on the whole boat!
This is the port side of the pilothouse, with massive wiring on the right side of the picture that will feed the helm. In the coming months, we hope to bring you images of pilothouse during the build-out of the instrument panel and subsequent integration of electronics.
