Here is a 55' Florida Bay Coaster. Built of steel, so it will not fit the chlorox catagory. However at 55' feet it has four staterooms and four heads and the interior looks like a Cape Cod cottage. This was designed by Jay Benford, who also designed a 65' FBC owned by rock star Billy Joel. Since Billy was married to Christie Brinkley we can not say that Billy Joel does not have good taste.

The Cape Cod cottage is hopefully secured to a concrete foundation so windage issues are of little to no concern. Florida coast doesn't get much wind so I suppose it really isn't a problem for the boat either.

one of them sunk in the Chesapeake earlier this summer during a thunderstorm, what happened is unclear, some says water came in over a stern and flooded the boat, other reports say it was it by 70kt gust broadside and tipped over...

here is one link to the story...

"She may be an ugly duckling, but she makes a great live aboard."

That seems to be a common refrain. I have been onboard a couple of them and they are very impressive in every respect except "curb appeal."

One recently sank in the upper Chesapeake, got pooped from what I hear but no further information on the loss. Benford and owners swear there is no issue with stability and some have sea stories to tell. Benford has been on Passagemaker site defending the boat ... or was until the site cratered.

If I had enough spare change to buy one I would use a tiny portion of that to hire someone to follow me around and poke me with a sharp stick every time I mentioned the idea. Ouch!

I have always liked Jay's work and I have several of his books. It was not until last week that I was able to get a first hand look at the coaster Red Head at the Newport Brokerage show. I was impressed by the function and ease of living and since she is 65 feet the curb appeal is a bit better.

Here is a link to her brokerage page:

We are lucky, it will never appear on the seven seas. It is stuck on the
Lake Constanze. And its not German, its Austrian

Hi,

You are not alone in wondering what is actually meant by the previous posts here

Hi,

It must be more suited to you guys on the western shores or in areas of regular sea fret ( Dave) than the rest of us mere mortals.

Seems the joke was the boat appears to have church windows, without knowing it is known as "Flying Mosque."

Jimmy Swaggart and Pat Robertson are (were?) fundamentalist Christian televangelists in the U.S.

They just don't require much art/ architecture education in the states. If they did, the charicteristics of the windows would have been read as eastern or mosque like.
