Royal Huisman presents a 180-foot concept sailing yacht
June 2008: Royal Huisman Shipyards: “A spaceship for the sea, fast and exhilarating to sail, architectural and individual to relax in,” is how Andrew Winch, the international designer teamed with renowned naval architect Philippe Briand for this project, describes the Royal Huisman 180.
This remarkable-looking 57m/180’ yacht is designed to create a fusion of two worlds – a truly fast, seaworthy sailing yacht capable of making ocean passages at speed and in comfort; and a luxurious floating home that affords the space, style, elegance and amenity to be found on large motor yachts.
Philippe Briand drew the lines for this sleek and powerful vessel, calling upon his exceptional experience of designing grand prix record breakers such as the transatlantic record-holder, Mari-Cha IV. To accommodate the requirements of luxury cruising, the lines have been finessed to ensure comfort and stability even when powering upwind; the tall ketch rig is optimized for Panama transits.
Modern and minimalist styling above the waterline belies a highly sophisticated and carefully conceived interior from Andrew Winch Design that offers exceptional levels of amenity and privacy to owners and their guests. A forward facing dining room provides a panoramic yet secluded outlook at anchor, whilst both the flybridge and the aft cockpit offer exhilaration and seclusion at sea.
The huge central lounge converts into a surround-sound cinema. The master stateroom has its own private stairway – reflecting an emphasis on separateness from crew that can be achieved throughout much of this yacht, when desired. A high degree of automation makes for simple and fast sail handling and clean, uninterrupted spaces on deck.
