Fellow post owner's I'm in the process of changing turbos on my 671's and my problem is the turbos are rusted to the exhaust housing. I've been soaking them in pb blaster tapping on them but can't break them loose, have not tried heating them yet but if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Since you exhausted your other options, heat will be your friend. Either that or remove the exhaust housing and turbo's as 1 piece and having a machine shop heat them and get them apart on a work bench. If they're that rusted you will more than likely need new exhaust housings anyways.
Had same problem recently, and heat was my friend indeed, but be careful with it inside the engine room, check your automatic fire extinguisher(s) location and have a hand extinguisher near you, or even better, have a helping hand nearby!
Nut cutting chisel. Cut or pop the nuts or bolt heads anyway you can. The blue-tipped wrench should be your very last resort.
Wasn't to crazy about open flame down below so ended up pulling exhaust with turbo, was more work but its out dropped it on garage floor a few times and it came apart will do other one tomorrow
Easy enough. I would inspect both manifolds really good while you have them out and clean and paint them well. There is a compound/sealer you should put between the slip together/push together fittings on the exhaust. Fuchs 762 high temp joint compound. It's expensive but worth it. Also use it on any threaded bolts that go into the exhaust such as a bolt plug for attaching a boost gauge or EGT gauge.
It's not snake oil. It's a high temp joint compound which is Sold and recommended by D'Angelo's marine exhaust, the MTU/DD dealer, the Cat dealer and many others and used by just about everyone in the U.S. on exhaust.
