We have a 1991 46sport fish . Some of the trim paint is blistering.
I can refinish myself but dont know the color. Anyone have suggestions on how to match it? What brand of paint to buy?

I remember going into an Automotive Paints store years ago and seeing a machine that could mix paint to match your sample.

It seems these machines are not as rare as they used to be.

As to what it is painted with, that is probably anyone's guess after 21 years unless you have owned it or known it's history since new.

As to what brand to buy- make sure you have your reading glasses and a bit of time as I am sure this thread will soon fill with a myriad of suggestions and explanations as to the good, the bad and the ugly of the marine paint market today.

Does a boat like his require anti-fouling paint for the underside? If so, since his is a sport fishing boat, he would not require an ablative paint because sport fishing boats are fast--is that right?

If the boat is kept in the ocean, yes. And yes. Back to the topic now..

Paint can be matched at paint stores. However if the boat is that old, you're probably better off painting the entire piece of trim if its not too much of a project, as it will generally chip somewhere else.

this is what i have in my owners book on paint and finish.

take it for what it is worth, paint, varnish, and coatings seem to fade change color over time with UV exposure.

I recently had a container of concentrated simple green leak on the deck, it left a "super clean" white spot.

THere is a company in Fla that will match your current gelcoat if you send them a golf ball sized sample. I think it is about 300 per gallon.

On your vintage Post, many owners have alwgripped or put some other type two part over the trim and bulkhead.

Sounds like a previous owner painted over your teak eyebrow and other trim? Probably a two part paint. Awlgrip, emron, anybody's guess. Most of the paint companies have a palette card of premixed paints. Get those cards from several paint manufactures and see if there is a premixed that matches. I agree with the comment to refinish the entire piece of trim also. Beautiful boats, good luck with it

Hello, I have a 46 1991. I have used Awlgrip Oyster White in several places on the boat and I think it matches perfect. Hope that helps you.
