Let's kick this thread off with the original rendering and some details of this spectacular new build by Oceanco. This past summer (2004), Oceanco began construction of an 80-meter yacht, code named “Y701”. This magnificent new yacht is a collaboration between Oceanco and the noted Italian design firm of Nuvolari & Lenard... the dynamic-duo behind the new Palmer Johnson's and Carver Marquis series.

Despite its large dimensions and muscular construction, the Y701 has a sleek, aggressive silhouette. Her superstructure epitomizes the yacht’s strong character, offering a bold, “ship-look", with broad expedition style decks to the rear and wing stations forward.

Great pictures; just after these pictures were taken, i came (too late) to make my "spy pictures" (i'm referring to the quility here of course...)

Mammoet is a company thats specialized in heavy transports.
These "tractors", are hightech units that can be coupled endlessly to other units where each wheel can be steered independently!
Ive seen a demonstration of those and they're inbelievable.
On the picture with the green painted foor, you can see 3 of these on the left of the 701, side by side.

The sky-crane pilothouse is normally used for container transports.
This one is actually quite old but there are enormously strong and hightech ones in use which dont use this crane-like movement but huge cylinder-like structures to lift the wheelhouse.

The units are controlled by remote, be it through a cable.

Would there ever be a chance to visit Oceanco between projects? ( prefarably within projects, but i understand the complications there.)

Can't say Erik, but I know she's extremely busy. That's why we should truly appreciate the time she's taking to photo-document Y701 for us. It might be best to respect this... and not over-step our welcome.

Another lovely looking yacht. Oceanco are building some stunning yachts at the momment.

Thank you Michele for taking the trouble to bring us these pictures, its great that persons like me, who are not in the industry will get to see the stages that a yacht build goes through. Even better is the fact that its Y701. Its one of the nicest looking yachts I have seen.

I know there has been a lot of discussion on this yacht and many do not like the lines and many dont think it is going to be one of the greats. However, for me, she is beautiful. I love the lines, i love the pictures, thanks Michelle. Anyone have anyidea who the owner is or the estimated cost of such a project. I am more excited about this project than Platium. Cant wait to see her launched.

Interesting... I've never heard anything but WOW! on the Y701. I think it's one of the most spectacular new yachts to date... and we are lucky to follow the build process. As for owners, this is something we don't discuss. We just discuss the yachts. On the cost... hard to say. But a bit more than a Bayliner.
