Amazing vessel you have there. My brother and I have become obsessed with Nordhavn as of late, especially after discovering their annual Atlantic Rally. We both hope to someday participate in it in our own Nordhavn. As for you though, have a blast!

Dream Boat

Wow, wow, wow, if you don't mind, I bookmarked your site.

I've played the Nordhavn dvd of the rally and am now busy reading the book with all the emails, which both my husband and I thoroughly enjoy.

Coming from a sailing background, for us the Nordhavn 46 is on our wish list; we wish you lots of luck with the building of the 68!

If you ever know of a Nordhavn owner coming to South Africa, please ask him to stop at Cape Town, I would love to be on one for real and try to pursuade him to take me out for a sail!

Pacific Crossing

Greetings all. The Nordhavn 68 referred to earlier is mine. We take delivery sometime in Spring 2007, and are very excited and impatient.

A group of boats, many of which crossed the Atlantic as part of the Nordhavn rally will be crossing the Pacific in 2009, and then cruising together randomly.

If anyone with a ocean-capable trawler wants to join us -- check out: http://www.rtwcruising.com

There are also a couple boats who want to cross in 2008, who are seeking company. If you are interested, email me: Ken Williams, at kenw @ seanet.com

Thank you,
Ken Williams

Hi Ken,

I realised this. Just finished the book; it makes real nice reading and gives you an insight peek in the thoughts of crossing the ocean by trawler in stead of a sailing yacht! How horrible that the airco sometimes stopped... while we had on our last 3 day passage that inside was just as wet as outside.... Definitively see the benefits of a trawler yacht, good luck with the launch of your new yacht!

Kelly:

My apologies for not responding sooner. I don't really monitor this board, and had forgotten I posted here months ago. There's a lot of great information here, so I will be visiting more frequently.

About the rtwcruising.com website:

There is a survey now on the site, that we've been using to filter all the people who register. We were getting 100s of people to register for the Pacific crossing, of which very few owned boats capable of crossing a lake, much less an ocean. From the survey respondents we have a smaller list who are in regular communications to do trip planning. At some point we'll be more public with what we are doing, but for now, we're keeping things fairly quiet, beyond keeping the site up to seek additional boats.

And, actually, we don't want a huge number of boats. Many of the places we'll be visiting have never seen the arrival of more than one or two power boats simultaneously. We're thinking that anything more than 10 boats would be unmanageable, and we're already at 15 boats. The tricky part is that these sorts of trips have a high attrition rate. I don't know if we are at 15 or 5 or even 1. The core of our group are from the Nordhavn Rally (Grey Pearl, Sans Souci, Strickly for Fun, Goleen) so those boats have improved odds of making the journey, but the others I don't know...

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about:

I'm one of the organizers for a group of power boats that is planning to cross the Pacific in 2009. For many of us, this is the start of a circumnavigtion. Most are Nordhavns. The website is: www.rtwcruising.com

For now, our focus is on a run in 2008 from Costa Rica to Alaska. Several of the boats are coming from the east coast, and we are all rendezvousing in Costa Rica around Feb 2008 to journey north together.

After Alaska we'll start figuring out the plan for the Pacific.

Hi Ken
The N68 looks and Im sure is a fantastic vessel. My only look at a Nordhavn was a 55 recently at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show (Skie). This vessel is a dream and even my sailboat brother was impressed. The pleasure of putting so much of yourself into your little ship must be heaven.
I hope you make it down to New Zealand on your travels as we Kiwis would love to to see her.
Eric Leishman mentioned to me that they were heading down to Chile to join Scott and Mary Flanders this summer. They are going to head down to Antarctic waters aboard Egret N46.
I envy you and other Nordhavn owners who set so many firsts. Good luck with the Pacific crossing .
Cheers Jeff Start

Wow, this vessel has impressed me, I am fully not a big fan of trawlers as yet but this Nordhavn 68 is impressive, I have to research some more.
