    Nordhavn's New 120 Expedition Yacht
    Extending The Range!

Progress on the Nordhavn 120 is moving along swiftly for PAE's new supersize trawler,
the biggest project for Pacific Asian Enterprises to date. PAE, the manufacturer of the
Nordhavn line of trawleresque yachts, recently released renderings on the N-120, a yacht that
reflects her roots while adapting fresh new lines befitting of Nordhavn's foray into superyacht territory.

The brand’s heritage is certainly reflected in the new flagship of the fleet, punctuated by the unmistakable expedition style Nordhavns are known for. The N-120 becomes the queen of Nordhavn’s fleet of 16 ocean-going expedition yachts with the smallest starting at 40-feet in length. PAE staff members and guests took an N40 around the world in 2001 in a fast trouble-free 6 months. This same commitment to offshore endurance and safety is built into every Nordhavn.

Production continues on schedule at Nordhavn’s partner factory; South Coast Marine in Xiamen, China. Currently, the hull and deck are joined while the engine beds are prepared and ready for installation of the main engines (twin MTU 8V 2000 M72 rated 965HP @ 2250RPM). Delivery is slated for mid-2012. “This boat is really going to grab the attention of those who are in the 120-foot market,” noted Trever Smith, who oversees the 120 project for Nordhavn.

The hand-laid FRP hull is built to exceed ABS standards as well as easily meet any standards organization’s specifications. Rigidity is enhanced with 24 longitudinal stingers as well as one collision bulkhead and six watertight bulkheads – all of which bolster safety as well as sound attenuation. Another trait the N120 shares with its smaller siblings is an uncommonly low-carbon footprint in terms of fuel usage. The N120’s fuel-efficient diesel engines and full-displacement hull come together to give an owner worldwide transoceanic range without unnecessarily fouling the environment. “While fuel consumption may not be a major concern for those fortunate enough to own an N120, a smaller carbon footprint and total luxury appointments have proven appeal to the yachting community,” says Nordhavn President Dan Streech. The estimated cruising speed of the N-120 is 13 knots.

The N-120 will handle her guests with elegance and grace. Accommodations are generously proportioned and practical for long voyages. In true super-yacht fashion, the N120 will be customized to the owner’s chosen independent interior designer’s specifications. Interior designer Destry Darr was commissioned to develop a high-end custom interior for hull one. The look will be simple and elegant yet contemporary in its styling. African cherry has been selected as the primary hardwood to be used throughout.

Forward of the salon, the dining area is contemporary, yet conservative. Hardwoods abound with minimalistic appointments, maintaining focus on the elements that surround. To keep the china in the cabinets, more than 60,000 pounds of solid lead ballast will be added to enhance stability of the N-120’s full-displacement hull and with a quad-fin TRAC stabilizer system, the dishes should stay put on the dining table; underway or at rest.

Located forward on the main deck, the master stateroom takes full advantage of the 27-foot, 11-inch beam and even offers separate his and her bathrooms forward. The first Nordhavn 120 has been built for a 3-time Nordhavn owner. Having previously owned a 62', a 76' and an 86' Nordhavn, this owner's commitment to the brand is assured and it's certain the new 120' will benefit from his cruising experience.

In this opposing render of the master, it appears burlwoods will adorn the cabinets, drawers and berth pedestal. Not shown are renders of the pilothouse, which is where we expect most Nordhavn spend the majority of their time. If the rest of the line is any indicator, it will be commercial and robust in nature. Also not shown is the skylounge, which based on the exterior renders, should feature a whirlpool on the aftdeck.

The bathrooms are fully tiled in the owner’s choice of the finest cut stone the world has to offer. Guests will not want for comfort either, thanks to four king-size guest suites that rival the master cabin, all covered in similar hardwoods. The crew is also taken care of with four crew berths and a captain’s cabin aft of the pilothouse.
