Moonen Yachts: Brief History

For 24 years, Moonen Yachts has blended contemporary craftsmanship with age-old skills, creating 57 handsome motoryachts between 18 and 38 metres. To achieve this task, they dedicate some 7,000 square meters of heated construction halls, with 10,000 square meters of open space, and 50 loyal craftsmen to the pursuit of yacht building... and yachting pleasure.

Once a Moonen yacht leaves the yard, it is independent and its owners are free from care to navigate the globe. A Moonen yacht owner is never alone, however if they need warranty work, expert repairs, replacement parts, and the sort of hands-on attention that will enhance navigation and enjoyment, the yard is always at their call.

Their experienced service crew is always ready to come to an owner's aid -anywhere in the world- if problems develop. Because they build these yachts, they have the best experience to help keep them running smoothly. Moonen strives to bring to life each client's unique vision of the ideal yacht, while maintaining that special Moonen "family look." Each Moonen yacht expresses the imagination of its owner, even as each shares the heritage of Moonen's Dutch quality and workmanship.

Ahoy, all you loyal Moonen fans, patient or impatient as the case may be!

I just want you all to know that my book: "Moonen Shipyards 1981 - 2006: Twenty-five years building pocket-size superyachts" has officially been published.

On 31 May we had a wonderful "family" party at the yard for all the employees, and a number of suppliers who helped sponsor the book. The attendees included Rien Moonen, the yard's founder, and his wife Mieke, and daughter Jolanda (who used to work for the yard doing PR), and a couple of the Scottish owners, the Snowie brothers. Emile Bilterijst, the very successful yard MD, led the proceedings and I signed a few thousand copies until exhaustion and single malt took over my hand.

I have to tell you that the book turned out beautifully, in every respect. Nice design, nice printing and production, and even a fairly decent text! No false modesty here: I love the yard's story, its ups and downs, and hope I told it well.

But you can be the judges. If you want copies, contact Heleen van Hout at Moonen. You won't be disappointed.

Cheers,
