Review: Moonen Yachts 97' "Sofia II"

Set forward at the bow, the VIP Suite berth is raised a step and centered in its sparkling cherry veneer setting, accented with white carpet and voluptuous window blinds. An overhead hatch allows morning sun or moonlight quietude. Copious storage lines the V-berth, including the bed pedestal.
Set along the curving bow bulkhead, a convenient desk in the VIP Suite offers space for a communications set-up; internet, diary, or business contact.
An additional guest cabin offers twin bunks; converting to a queen size with a bridge, and/or overhead bunk beds as well, plus storage cabinets. Rather spare, with a beam window.
Designed on the same level with the Master bath, the Guest Baths mimic its wash basins and cherry veneer cabinetry, in a slightly less spacious mode. Glass enclosed showers boast room for two.
The lazarette entrance from the swim platform shows a generous workspace with cabinet storage, rod holders and laundering facilities.
Impressive for a yacht this size, Moonen has provided a playing field-size engine room to house its twin Caterpillar C 18 DI-TA engines, plus generators, thrusters and other essential mechanical necessities. Glorious walk-around space and basketball-player headroom make this a gem indeed to service, as well as analyze performance. Those Dutchmen certainly know how to provide for top-drawer mechanical talent.
Summing up, Moonen has produced yet another rising star – an award winner, no doubt – in its
“Pocket Superyacht” series. With Lloyd’s Register and MCA approval, plus 75 gorgeous yacht builds
to its credit, this Dutch Builder seems certain to foster yet another growing league on the world’s
seven seas. Furthermore, 3rd and 4th Moonen 97’s are already set for 2010 delivery.
