Good question - I guess she could hold her own against most other cats.
But then driving her must be a bit like taking a dance hall to sea

ASEAN LADY

289'0" • 2001 While she was originally slated to launch last year, Asean Lady actually debuts on the world stage this year because work was diverted to other, mostly commercial, projects at the yard. But that’s okay, since Asean Lady’s owner, Brian Chang, also owns the yard. Asean Lady is a motoryacht version of a proa, which is an outrigger canoe used for centuries in the South Pacific. Because the proa hull form is so efficient, the yacht can reportedly cruise at 15 knots on just one engine driving a steerable, retractable stern thruster. Chang is an experienced yachtsman whose previous yacht was a traditional-looking 158-footer. B: Yantai-Raffles Shipyard, China; N: Ian Mitchell; H: Steel; E: 1/2,000-hp Caterpillar

Can the word "fugly" be safely used?

ASEAN LADY...wow...looks like someone doesn't like the beauty of decks with walkways! How do you place fenders off the outriggers?

Must limit docking choices when you can only tie up on the one side if your in a tight marina!

Outriggers? i thought she only had one which is the one on the Starboard side. Anyhow, let us not stray too far from the original topic...

Hi,

The Asean Lady is normally based in Singapore at the Raffles Marina as that's her home port. Obviously she only comes alongside on the main hull side. Besides, there aren't that many marina's in the entire SE Asia region that can accomodate her size. Raffles Marina and RSYC are probably the only 2 marinas that can handle her.

Most of the time when I see her in either Malaysia or Phuket, Thailand she's just anchored.

HKT Horizon, i would imagine that she would have to anchor in most destinations. Her design does not permit her to berth in most marinas around the world.

Anyhow, OutMyWindow, what is new? Any thing of note passing out your window?

Hey, thanks for posting that pic, that looks like the Norwegian Star. Norwegian Dawn's sister as well as the Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Pearl and now Norwegain Gem underconstruction. The Pride Of Hawaii is the same make but she is from the Norwegian Cruise Line America brand. But is to come over to Nowegian cruise Line and become the Norwegian Jade. I wonder what would happen if yachts were to start getting hull art.

You know your "Norwegians". The Spring/Summer/Fall is very busy with ships leaving for Alaska continuously.
As for Hull Art, it looks great on these huge ships like to see it on yachts to.

I have been into cruiseships seriously for nearly all my life and no i am not old. I only been into yachts seriously for about 4 years now. So i know cruiseships backward as we would say in Barbados. I would be interested to see a yacht with hull art but i am not sure that owners or potential owners would be willing to diverge that far from the norm.

I don't think it will be "far from the norm" in the near future.
As we all know most of these Mega-Yachts are purpose build for the Charter business anyway, basically smaller more luxurious cruise ships.
So, as soon as one of them becomes "distinctive" through a paint job, I'm sure others will follow with more imaginative ones to keep themselves in the forefront of the booking Agents and their clients.

LOL, i still find that a bit far fetched for now outmywindow. So what is it about your area that attracts the yachts? I know the Sunrise seems to be a pretty regular visitor there.

I suspect they are here to get their picture taken and get featured on YachtForums.
Or you can type in "Beautiful British Columbia" into your browser and see how many hits you get.
