Thumbs down ATLANTIS THIS

Brought 64 Grand Alaskan to Atlantis for 7 days. On the first night around 130-230 AM, some drunken sod wound up and threw a rocks glass against our transome shattering same and taking about an 8 inch gouge thru the gelcoat. Estimate of damage repair is $1500. Called dockmster and security. No cameras covering the slips in the area of slip 18 on the inside of marina.

How can Atlantis allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to wander these docks, at all hours of the day or night with the mulititude of multi million dollar-yachts in their harbor. A similarly priced marina in the states would have keyed access to the docks and only authorized owners, crew and guests on the docks.

The owner is really pissed and vows never to return and to tell all he knows not to patronize Atlantis. The security here is lax.

John,

Did that 64 Alaskan happen to belong to a guy named Sikes? If so, I met him at Loggerhead Marina in Jupiter. Nice guy. Spent some time on the boat with him. He's also a member of YF.

On Atlantis, first problem I've heard about, but a number of people have stopped cruising over to the islands because of the entry fees. It's not the money, it's the principle! In years past, I knew lots of center console guys that would head for the islands on weekends, but now they choose other destinations. Over the course of a weekend, most of these guys would spend 10 times the entry fees on lodging, slips, food, drinks and rolling the dice.

Sorry to hear about your trouble in Atlantis.

Cool Reply

Question 1.) No they are not going to remburse us. And as $15G deductable, its all out of the owners pocket. Unique lettering, repaint transome et al...

In reposne to Carl's comment, the Bahamas may have on first glance killed to goose that laid the golden egg. However, the million dollar plus yachts whose owners (corporate or private) who can afford $3.10 per gallon (today) diesel can certainly afford the $300 cruising permit and obligatory fishing license. What gets me is that the permit is only good for 90 days.

Dockage with Peter at Nassau Harbor Club at $1.50 per foot is still a great deal by US standards and the gin clear water and excellent lobster and conching is what brings them back.

I'm only here because they pay me $300 a day to keep them off the bottom.
9okay, and I make the best conch salad).

That is just stupid. It always takes one person to ruin it for everyone. Why would such an extravegent hotel not watch everyone like a hawk.
