Marinas in the Ft. Lauderdale Area for Dockage

Does anyone have suggestions on marinas in the Lauderdale area?

I am just about to close escrow on a 63’ boat, and looking for advice on possible marinas to keep it for approx. 12 months. Any that are priced better that others? Security? Etc.

Yes, prices are all over the map depending on location, ammenities, and the condition of the marina. You can also keep the boat behind someone's house for around $12 per foot per month including electric and water, BUT you cannot stay on the boat overnight at most all houses on the water. E-mail me if you need marina recommendations or someone to manage your yacht for you.

Try one of the on line services for dock space including this one for listings, also, there are apparently legal liveabord residential areas in Ft Lauderdale, call the City Hall by law dept for locations

Thanks for the info. I have tried looking for somethng online, but seem to be striking out...I will continue hunting.

We currently live in CA, so I am trying to do much of the legwork from here so that my trips out to FL are productive.

I am leaning for something full service for the first several months while we dial in the boat, so I think I will bypass the house thing for a little while. I know it will cost considerable more, but I think it will be worth the extra $$.

Locating the right captain to help me manage the boat will be my other challenge, as I am a bit **** as to how I like the boat kept.

One thing to consider is how far you want to be from the ICW or the inlet. Further away, the cheaped it gets. But you could spend the difference in time and fuel getting to anywhere. You might also save a few bucks by going just north or south of Ft. Lauderdale; like Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Pt., Dania or Hollywood.

try activecaptain dot com. lots of good up to date marina info.

depending on how you will use the boat, you may consider Miami / biscayne bay. nice clear blue green water, no no wake zones, no bridges, right at the inlets and many nice day / week end destinations on the bay.

Grove Harbor Marina has a full yard with decent prices and is a great location right by coconut grove (restaurants, etc...) plus a Fresh Market on location (great for when you get in and need to get food and stuff).

The 70 footer that i run spends the winters there.

I keep my own boat next door at Dinner Key which i think has a wait list again.

Marina Bay is pretty far from the ICW & ocean. I seem to recall things getting a bit dirty up there also due to the airport.

True, about 45 min. or so up the river. But it's fairly well protected in a storm. Which can be a reasonable trade off in a bad storm season and well worth an extra wash or two a month.

Aye Mate, the dirt is not from the airport, but rather from the power plant upwind from Marina Bay and the surrounding area.

The burn used motor oil at night or some other nasty fuel and with E/SE winds, we get the black soot. (I live close to Marina Bay up the New River)

Not sure how the plant managers get away with the pollution, but I am fairly confident money and bribes are involved....

Very true. I tied off under 595 for Andrew. Spent several hours digging a channel under the boat by hand through fire ants, but the boat survived and was the 1st back to A1A after the storm.

Try one of the City of Fort Lauderdale's marinas or along the New River which runs through downtown. Very exciting along the River, there is a Riverwalk http://www.goriverwalk.com/ along both sides that is great for walking or bike riding. Lots of restaurants and shopping are close by. http://ci.ftlaud.fl.us/marinas/index.htm Check the "Rate Schedule" http://ci.ftlaud.fl.us/marinas/rates.pdf for prices. Call for better deals. Depending on traffic they sometimes run specials or adjust rates accordingly.

for years I kept a boat on the new river, behind private homes, the rate is
about 1/2 that of a marina, however with your length, this may be a slight problem. get on "waterfront news" or the Ft Laud newspaper to find space, this time of year space should be coming available. City Marina, (Cooleys Landing) on new river usually has space, however again 60+ feet may be a issue. Because they are off the ICW rates are a it better, 24 hour security, good clean rest rooms and laundry, on the flood or ebb water runs pretty
fast for abt 2 hrs each way.
