Platinum Yachts

Platinum Yachts (PY) is a subsidiary of Drydocks World, which in turn is a group of shipyards located in Dubai, Singapore and Indonesia with about 30,000 employees. Drydocks World lies within Dubai World, a Dubai government holding company (which includes Nakheel, DP World, Istithmar, Limitless and others). The core business is Custom built and Semi-Custom built Mega Yachts, as well as conversions and repairing of large Motor and Sailing Yachts. Platinum Yachts has an in-house Interior Design & Decoration office, and a fully equipped Naval Architect and Engineering department. The production team consists of mechanical, electrical, structural, hull treatment and interior and exterior outfitting departments and can handle all sorts of work in-house or in close collaboration with well known and reputable suppliers and subcontractors specialized in Yacht building.

Platinum Yachts started on 2001 after purchasing the bare hull and part of the superstructure of the abandoned project PANHANDLE from B+V/Lurssen. The hull had no outfitting whatsoever (no pipes or cable trays or foundations) and part of the superstructure was just stepped on the hull, not welded. Some of the equipment including main engines and generators was stored in containers and had yet to be installed. The whole lot was transferred on a floating dock to Dubai to perform the necessary work to complete the project with a new interior design, suitable for the new Owner.

Currently Platinum Yachts is located in the free zone area of the port in Jebel Ali. Besides dedicated offices combined with warehouse and workshops for the different activities, they have a 200-meter floating dock with a 10,000 tonlifting capacity, as well as a 400-meter outfitting quay. In 2009, Platinum Yachts will move to Dubai Maritime City (DMC), a man-made peninsula at the heart of Dubai, specially made for the maritime industry in general. The facilities within DMC include large outfitting quays, two synchro lifts (3000 tons & 6000 tons), a transfer area and numerous smaller and larger dry berths. Platinum Yachts will commission three fully air-conditioned sheds; two of 100m and one of 150m. Next to these facilities we will the new offices combined with warehouse and workshop, including dedicated spray booths, workshops for mechanical and construction works, etc.
