Review: Lurssen Yachts 224' "Kismet"

With two lower decks, crew accommodations are on the first lower deck, to include 10 cabins for up to 22 members. In addition to the Captain’s quarters on the upper deck, there is also a Nanny stateroom on the lower deck. All have ensuite bathrooms and showers. On the lowest of Kismet’s four decks, the entire forward area is packed with technical equipment; air conditioners, freezers, coolers, ironing room, bow thrusters and generators.
The beam-wide center portion, however, welcomes the copious crew lounge; cooking, dining facilities as well as recreation. Massive for a yacht this size and nicely arranged, it sports a flat screen television suspended between the columns that separate the dining & lounge area. One crewman praised the set-up as the nicest crew quarters he’d ever seen.
Bright, roomy, and a first class utilitarian design, Kismet’s Engineer’s station coordinates every move with the Captain’s helm. All electrical activity and control is administered from this station.
The engine room is “big enough to play basketball in,” remarked a guest on tour. It certainly is sizable, at two stories high, and the full 42’ beam wide. Painted all white, not one off-color speck was visible with this fastidious care. The engine room is well sound insulated, so that underway barely a murmur is audible on deck or throughout the ship.
A close-up of one of the driving forces behind this beast. Although Cat 3512-B's are massive motors by any measure, they are easily mistaken for generators due to the size of Kismet's engine room. Rated at 1,500 kW /2,038 hp each, they are fastidiously cared for, and done so with the greatest of ease in this readily serviced space.
Kismet Engine Room Overview from the 2nd floor; brief tech specs...

Main Engines: 2x CAT 3512 B, each 1,500 kW / 2,038 hp
Generator sets: 3 Caterpillar C18 - 300 kVA at 1.500 rpm
Emergency Genset: 1 Caterpillar C9 – 185 kVA at 1.500 rpm
Propulsion: 2 gear boxes Reintjes, Two Piening fixed propellers
Steering: 2 Rolls Royce steering gears with two high lift rudders
Bow thruster: Jastram 200 kW
Fuel capacity: 140 t
Fresh water capacity: 28 t
Fresh water makers: 2 x HEM duplex, each 30.000 l per day
Stabilizers: 4 x Quantum zero speed
Air conditioning: Noske-Kaeser, chilled water
In the ship’s garage, runabouts at the ready range from 25’ Chris Craft with a 425 hp stern drive; to a water toy menu of Yamaha WaveRunners, Brownies compressors, and diving equipment.
Crew members using a remotely controlled Gantry crane to deploy one of Kismet's satellites, a 25’ Nautica RIB with twin 150 hp outboards. Functional and aesthetic details abound on this build, filling every space on the ship. Case in point, notice the fold down cleats along the step-rail for securing tenders after deployment.
Kismet is a yacht built for voyaging; her fate and fortune yearns for many an adventure at those noted foreign ports and favorite hidden coves. No question, this exceptional yacht was conceived by her seafaring owners to cruise, world wide, in beautiful style and excellent comfort.

Kismet is yet another testament to Lurssen's superlative craftsmanship & engineering.
It is on a scale beyond the scope of comprehension.
