A new Philippe Briand design to be built by Lürssen Yachts.

If Vitruvius looks like it's missing a mast, it's because Philippe Briand has concentrated mainly on sailing yachts in the past. Working in conjunction with Lurssen yachts, his experience in designing sailing yachts is about to be transformed into a 180' - high speed, high efficiency motoryacht.

Built of Alustar with a focus on hull and propulsion efficiency, Vitruvius will reach a top speed of more than 20 knots with cruising speed of 18 knots. Impressive figures for a 180' yacht! As a by-product of its Alustar construction and optimized hull, fuel consumption is 50% less than a conventional yacht of similar size. This increased efficiency will give Vitruvius a range of 4000 miles at 15 knots. Essentially, a motoryacht with the trans-Atlantic capability of a sailing yacht.

While the low-profile silhouette of Vitruvius may look familiar, the exterior details are purposely kept minimal. Matter of fact, the entire design is geared toward aero and hydrodynamic efficiency. For example, due to a radically lowered center of gravity, the surface area of the stabilizers is reduced, therefore minimizing parasitic drag. Couple this with a streamlined superstructure and a displacement well under 400 tons, and you've got a boat in a league with extraordinary gentlemen.

The salon, the cockpit and the aft deck are intended to flow together, creating a spacious 8.5 meter x 18 meter long deck area, where passengers can choose between sun or shade within steps. The translucent sides of the salon are intended to offer a feeling of outdoors, while remaining protected from the elements. The owners’ suite is located midship and spans the entire beam of the boat, giving exceptional volume and comfort for long crossings. The boat will comfortably accommodate 10 guests and provisions have been made for a full crew. All service areas (crew area, galley, technical zones and engine room) are equipped to the customary standard for a 180’ yacht.

Vitruvius will be the result of proven experience, a passion for design and a devotion to flawless execution. This distinctive build may very well usher in a new era in yacht design.
