Must be the famous Arquipelago, I guess. As far as I know, Luerssen is based in Bremen, Germany which is not really round the corner. Maybe the superowners of the superyachts have found out that there is an alternative to the côte d'azure...and a very nice one as well!
Haven't been to the islands in the archiepalgo but will definitely try it next summer...albeit on a smaller boat, probably... |

Yes, in the summer this is a much better place than the Côte d´Azur, not too hot, maybe not hot at all like this summer..., less crowded and above all, silent!
To move around you don´t need a boat of your own, take a steamferry. They are both going regular trips or special cruises with dinner and live music. Small hotels and restaurants are popping up everywhere nowadays so you can move around for a couple of weeks.
Season is from mid june to mid august, welcome! |

SKAT was leaving Stockholm on 9 September, about 13.50 hours. Photo from Nybroplan, on the left the Vasa Museet.

Well Charles Simonyi the owner of Skat... is an odd cookie... very smart guy... late 50sh.
He is a billionaire - started as pennyless Hungarian refugee... US citizen... used to work in Denmark...
Never married, geek... no children... had a long romantic relationship with Martha Stewart !!!

Well the front half of the yacht certainly looks military. But the back half looks like the lounge deck escaped from the top of a cruise ship! Maybe the idea was to confuse everybody?

I'm still fascinated by the geometries of Skat. To me, it really is a beautiful vessel.

I found this great article on-line. It was published by a US magazine. It was about the 100 largest private motor yachts.
The owner of the Skat is a Microsoft millionaire. In 2003 Skat was the 7th largest. After Larry's new 451 footer (138m) taking over fellow Microsoft'er Paul Allen, by 40 foot.
OK so you want this guys name? Here it is: Charles Simonyi. Charles is the chief architect of Microsoft.
The article mentioned 'yacht-watchers have taken issue with her grey paint scheme, while others dislike the way her windows jut out. '
And here's what they said to that: 'To them, we say: Get your own yacht.' '
Oh well...I thought it looked quite military and stealth like. Who knows maybe Microsoft really is keen on running the world and need a huge invisible-to-radar and invisible-to-the-naked-eye-from-a-distance command and control centre. LOL
Ciao,
Adam.
P.S I will paste the article link when I find it in another file I have. |
I was bored so i looked to see what bill gates yacht looked like so i typed it in google and got a million pics of SKAT. the captions read that SKAT is in fact bill gate's yacht

I made a Google too, on bill-gates-yacht and got about 50 readable answers with different yachts of which the first was Skat, second Octopus, third Meduse and the fourth was Utopia!
And to me he said he rather charter than buy a yacht... |

SKAT - My first post on Yacht Forums
She is am impressive vessel. I find the rake on the bow to be very interesting. UNlike most semi or even full displacement megayachts, she has a very narrow entry beam and the obvious raking on the forward structure gives her an awesome aggresive look. Furthermore, it also adds a level of functionality and swell tolerance that most superyachts might think twice about taking on, especially when you look at the bow structure from below and above, you get the impression the slim entry and the lines of the forward structure would easily allow her to cut throw waves and push the two portions of the spilt water out to the side. I wonder if the owners intend to take her into more aggressive waters.
I think Leurssen has made a smart move in making yachts that are not only top of the line in quality, but a vessel different in color and overall style. She reminds me so much of a military vessel, which is why I would have to say that is one of the many reasons I like her.
I am on the west coast of the US and doubt I will see her anytime soon, so lets keep those pics comin!

| See Skat in copenhagen Juli 2006
Hello
I have seen the yacht in July 2006 in Copenhagen. Still does someone have more pictures of the yacht? Much-calibrates even structural drawings? I would copy it gladly as mini Ship (Modell)
perhaps more links for more Pics or plans from that yacht?
Thx
Stefan

I know this post is outdated, but I can't help but think that Kelly is describing a haircut know as the "Mullet"; All business in the front and PARTY in the back.

Skat is again in Stockholm. This little tender was just passing outside my house, with a couple of bikes on a rack! Maybe I´ll take some pictures of the mothership later...

When I was coming back tonight, I had to give way to a certain grey ship since she was a little larger than ours... |
