I am 25 kinda getting a late start to this but I am thinking of going to a Massachusettes Maritime Academy

whats your take on going to school and how good is this school?

Graduates must qualify through examination by the United States Coast Guard as Third Mate, Steam and Motor Vessels of unlimited tonnage on the oceans. This requires satisfactorily completing STCW 95 requirements. The ultimate goal is to prepare the student to eventually reach the level of Master, Oceans Unlimited.

DOES this mean, I become a third mate on ships that sail internationally of unlimited tonnage? and how long does it take to reach the master of Oceans unlimited?

3rd Mate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_mate

This is as close as I could find to Master Un Limited, it is the non US Term for the same qualification : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Mariner

ahh so about few years of being on the ship as you go up the rank to become a master of oceans unlimited.

that allows you to be on ANY SHIP? (minus hazardous and towing?)
