My mouth literally drop when I read your review of the new Lazzara. Wow, four engines, eight props. Watch out for the bottom...

This preview and post has to have been a record in turn around time. No magazine could ever do what you just did. Great work Carl.

My effort was nothing compared to Lazzara's... they dreamed-up this boat and built inside of 10 months! Like any project of this magnitude, they had some challenges. A big hurdle came late in the game...

Volvo hired a company to put on the debut of the boat. This included the stage, music, video, lighting, food, drink, accomodations, travel, shuttle services, twins, etc. I can't even throw a good Superbowl party, so I have no idea what's involved, but... Volvo canned the company at the last minute because they weren't up to the task.

Lazzara took the bull by the horns and brought this all together. I don't know the names of all the people that made this happen, but special recognition should be extended to Lazzara's creative art and marketing directors... Chuck Thompson and Troy Raszka. These gus pulled off a miracle.

Here's a picture taken just after the curtain dropped on the LSX. The smoke you see under the boat isn't from dry ice, it's Dick's cigar.

Production. Can't say anymore until after Lauderdale, but 3 yachts are sold already.

That is one nice boat. It looks slightly different from the other Lazzara's that we see though. Gotta love the oval window in the hull!!! Thanks for posting the pic Carl... it's real nice!

Quite stunning, and guaranteed to do very well - opens up a whole new area of the market for them.

Interesting, tho, that they're offering insurance with no captain.... when their insurance is so unbelievably strict on Captain's for their other boats.

Wow, that is a beaut! Now, with the four engines, or more so the drive pods, do the two port turn together and two starboard turn together? Or do the outboard ones do the turning and inboard fixed? How does that work against the others? Interesting concept, want to see more.

Over the weekend, I heard someone ask… “Is there a market for large express in the U.S.?” I thought to myself, if there wasn’t a market before… there is definitely one now.

The looks of the boat will be enough to separate men from their money, but Lazzara may have a wider audience then expected. It’s not just a boat for making a statement. This boat will have a broader appeal. Lazzara has an efficient hull that is easy to handle, gets great gas mileage, is relatively maintenance-free, has long-range capability, can get there in a hurry and it makes a very comfortable live-aboard. Not to mention what it will do for a woman’s libido.

The fact that 3 LSX’s have been sold before ANYONE ever saw the boat publicly… might be a sign Lazzara is onto something.

4 IPS??? Pardon my criticism, but it's obvious that it is just a temporary solution, if Volvo was ready with bigger diesels IPS, there would be only two of them... Reminds me of three tits on a female body instead of two bigger...

All in all she's ok, pushing the bar for the other builders. But I hear that the 800HP Volvos will be soon out coupled with IPS. Then the LSX will start to look more appropriate for the rest of the world market, the pure technicism and functionality can appeal only on the USA market.

Note that this is not like a triple, quadriple or more jet instalation. Here idling and up to 15 knots is with all four on, or you drag two. And my God you drag.

Hi Teena,

I'd assume all four props would be engaged/running giving the statement in the review that the toe-in changes as speed increases... If not so, the disengaged props would act as "rudders with more drag and turbulence" hence she could be listed as a "drag-queen".. (sorry, couldn't resist

)

How does the LSX's price compare to those of other brands like Azimut, Sunseeker, etc.?
That new Volvo IPS system must cost a premium over other propulsion systems!

Its good the owner can get insurance on them. I wouldn't be to crazy about working on one. Four oil changes, not very much room between engines, I have no experience with those engines, but if they are like any other "modern" diesel, chasing the electrical gremlins will be a ton of fun.

I wonder how long the owners will be insured for after running aground and breaking away four outdrives? It seems like a lot of expensive hardware in the water.

I have driven a boat with IPS and found them to maneuver well, and run quietly with no vibration. I would like to see how the quads work around the dock. If the technology is as good as they say it is, with those lines they should sell a ton of them.
