Ok, guys and gals ..... is their price of $3.4M reasonable ???

I'm not sure whether I'm offended by that price .....

It all depends if they give you a full tank of fuel

If the LSX really costs $3.4M, then it seems to be an offensive price.
BUT ... IF YOU'VE GOT THE NEED FOR SPEED ... it's NOT!

Without knowing the details, sounds like it is priced right in comparison to a Viking V70 ($3.5) or the upcoming Pershing 72 (an astounding $4.5, especially when you consider it is more the size of a 68).

I think it needs a improvised fly bridge, A single tube that rises about 4 feet up Thur the roof with a second joystick mounted on top . That way when you motor into the harbor or marina, you can be standing on the roof with that big grin not having motor around partly hidden inside.

At least that way when everyone is admiring the yacht, you can fantasize they are admiring you.

edit: now looking at the yacht again ,maybe the same idea on the fore deck

I haven’t priced other express yachts of this size, but if the LSX is a little higher, it may be justifiable. But first, I’d like to encourage you to look at some used boats in this segment. Go onboard them. Talk with their owners or captains and look closely out how the materials have weathered time. If possible, take the boat out for a shake down cruise and see if it rattles & rolls. Does it feel loose? Does sound resonate throughout the hull, the cabin, etc? Throw some switches and flush some toilets. Do they work?!

Let me draw an auto analogy… nothing beats that new car ride, right? But a few months later, it wears off and you’re stuck with the payments. Worse, the car rides a little looser, not quite as tight. A couple of years later, squeaks & rattles replace Dolby surround sound and you’re wondering when the bumper will off.

Now… take a used Lazzara out for test spin. I have. A 76’ enclosed bridge to be exact and I was duly impressed. A very solid boat. I also witnessed, immediately following last year’s hurricanes, a similar length Lazzara snap 6 concrete pilings in half without so much as a gelcoat crack along the rub rail... (See Pic) Can’t say the same for any of the two dozen or so Sea Rays I photographed after these storms… each of them looking like victims of a great white.

It’s a “get what you pay for” world. Maybe I’m the exception to the rule, but I tend to gravitate toward well engineered, long lasting products… as opposed to trendy, popular statement-type items. Another auto analogy would probably define my mindset… I would much rather have an Acura NSX over a Ferrari… any day.

I can tell you this much… I’ve never been a big fan of express cruisers, but the LSX changed my mind. I like to look at expresses, sea trial ‘em and write about ‘em, but I’m a flybridge kinda guy. Given the resources, I would definitely buy the LSX. Once you go onboard, you’ll feel the same way. This boat exudes quality in every detail.

Setting aside styling & finish, there are a couple of solid reasons why I would be comfortable buying this boat. First… a 5-year warranty that covers everything. Second… if I have a problem, I’m dealing directly with the family that built the boat, not some clueless clerical worker at a corporate conglomerate that is more concerned with profits then customer satisfaction.

If you want to see and be seen, there's an exterior joystick helm located to starboard aft. You can have the same on the port side too.

Carl,
That's It!
You've got me hooked on the LSX.
Now all I need is $3.4M.

For those interested in multiple Volvo IPS installations, there's also a 56 foot boat with three 435 HP units, giving a total of 1305 HP installed. It's manufactured by Absolute Yachts from Italy.

http://www.absoluteyachts.com/englis...teristiche.htm

When will Volvo Penta be true to it's name and bring out the five-unit installation?

Some updated pictures have been added to the LSX feature. At the time I wrote the review, the day after the debut, renderings were the only images available. Here's the link...

Here's an image that didn't fit into the original text. This pic was taken from the top of the staircase, looking down over the galley. This area incorporates a sub-salon, sorta speak. This actually presents an editorial dilemma... what is the appropriate verbiage? Sub-salon? Lower salon? Dungeon?

Personally I think there are enough of soap designs out there and the Mangusta 80 had a much nicer design when they first appeared with the forward leaning arch around 1990. Seeing these big boats speeding above 40 knots was really something! Since then, almost all producers are lost in soap designs and the funny thing is that after they started to have fixed roofs, they began to call them Open??
