Horizon launches EP148 superyacht
Horizon's first major launch occured last week at the manufacturer's yard facility. She is a member of Horizon's 'EP' Series and is the flagship of that particular series. The launching of the EP148 represents a major milestone for Horizon Yachts as it is nearing the climax of more than two years of extensive work.
The EP148 came out of the necessity to compete on the world mega-yacht stage. Horizon has developed the EP148 ultimate steel, long-range cruising yacht. Combining style, stability, safety and luxury into a BV Ice Classification design, the Horizon EP148 has surpassed the challenge and is setting new standards for yacht design and construction. This is a yacht for the explorer who demands perfection and quality with an ability to enjoy life to the fullest.
Horizon's EP148 carries a pair of MTU 12V 4000 M60's engines. Her range at just under 10 knots is expected to be approximately 4,200 nautical miles. Her tanks when filled to capacity hold 63,150 liters of fuel. This new vessel has impressive dimensions with a length of 45-meters, a beam of 8.83-meters -that's nearly 30-feet!- and a draft of 2.6-meters.
She will sleep guests in five spacious cabins, two mirror doubles and two mirror twin cabins on either side of the center-line on the lower hull. The fifth cabin is the Master stateroom located forward on the main deck. There is plenty of storage for toys including the dedicated garage for the main tender in the aft hull. This will be accessed through a transom door. The other tenders and toys are stored in built-in lockers just forward of the bridge are served by a purpose-built crane. A crew tender as well as PWCs are stored there on either side of the central walkway. The new vessel is likely to be delivered by April 2012 after final finishing touches are put on and extensive sea trialing around Taiwan are satisfactorily completed. For more information:
