New Build: Holland Jachtbouw 36m

Holland Jachtbouw lands major new motoryacht project

{Zaandam, The Netherlands: June 2005} Holland Jachtbouw has received the order for a new 36-metre displacement motoryacht, designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder. The project will be the second motoryacht to be built by the Dutch yard, adding to a global fleet of renowned sailing yachts.

With a beam of 7.75-metres, the new motoryacht will have significant interior volume. This will provide good accommodations for 12 guests, including an elegant owner’s stateroom and a VIP suite, plus dedicated quarters for six crew members. The boat is expected to cruise extensively in the Mediterranean region, and will have the facilities in place to offer a high standard of entertainment. The large galley, complete with the latest commercial equipment, will reinforce this concept further.

The exterior profile of this fully customised motoryacht has been designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder, and PB Design will also be responsible for her interior.
A twin shaft/propeller arrangement, with MTU engines offering approximately 960 hp of power, will provide a cruising speed of approx. 12 knots and a top speed in excess of 13 knots. The yacht will be built to Lloyds and MCA accreditation standards.

This will be the second motoryacht to be built at Holland Jachtbouw, following on from the semi-displacement flybridge cruiser Cassiopeia. Since its launch in 2004, Cassiopeia has received excellent reviews in the yachting media. After extensive cruising in the Baltic and Mediterranean, her owner also singled Cassiopeia out for praise: “She runs very nicely and was very steady in choppy seas. Holland Jachtbouw has built a high-quality, classic-looking vessel, while at the same time incorporating the design, electronic and mechanical features that make her a state-of-the-art motoryacht.”

This new build will join two other major projects currently under construction at Holland Jachtbouw. These are both sailing yachts: An ultra-modern 37-metre performance cruiser from the drawing boards of Dixon Yacht Design with an interior by John Munford, and Skylge, a lovely 40.15-metre schooner from Hoek Design.

Meanwhile, Holland Jachtbouw’s close affiliation with the sailing yacht world was further reinforced by its sponsorship of the recent Rolex Transatlantic Challenge race. Two shining lights of the Holland Jachtbouw fleet – Windrose and Whisper - participated in this event, as did Tempest, refitted by Holland Jachtbouw in 2000. On Friday 3 June Windrose finished third overall at The Needles. She smashed her 2002 record of 11 days, 10 hours and 25 minutes, making the crossing in 10 days, 20 hours and 47 minutes.

During the Rolex Transatlantic Challenge, Gerard Dijkstra, designer of Windrose and navigator onboard during the race, wrote daily reports for the dedicated website. These can be read on www.windrose.nl
