| Hakvoort Shipbuilder
A friend of mine asked me about Hakvoort, http://www.hakvoort.com/, and I told him truthfully I had never heard of them. I said I would post the question here and see if anyone knows anything about them. I gather he is looking at a posting in Florida for one of their yachts and wants to know about reputation, quality, etc... Thanks for any information.

Hi, They have been around for quite a while. I have worked on 4 boats with an outstanding marine carpenter/cabinet maker who did his apprenticeship there. He was very proud of everything they had done and if his is a typical work ethic of the staff there I would say they are a good company with a good product. Is your friend going to own or run one of these? |

I like what they are doing, as the Lady Duvera II by Diana Design, one of my absolute favorites. I have also had long conversations with Albert Hakvoort Sr and he is the right kind of yachtsman to know what he is talking about, and building. But as always with one-off construction, the yacht will not be better than the design you give them... |

I don't know, I know he has been looking at yachts in the 70 to 75 foot size range to move up to. I gather there is one for sale on Yachtworld and that generated his interest, could he afford it yes. Could I afford it no, only have rich friends no money for me. My 48 foot Chris Craft is fine for me.

"Belle De Jour", a 75-footer, was on display in the MIA show with a $2M ask. Designer was Peter Beeldsnijder who has been around for a while... maybe even longer than Lars  Small MANs + 3000 gal. fuel cap. should give her some fairly long legs. |

| Hakvoort Shipyard
I am in the middle of a build with Hakvoort, and having toured every other major yard in Holland, I have to say that Hakvoort falls into the top five builders in the world in terms of quality, etc... They are a true joy to work with, and while they do not have much in the way of publicity, their work speaks for itself. I cannot say enough about them. It is truly a family-run operation, and they will not sacrifice quality for cost-saving measures... I would have to rank them as #3 just behind Royal Huisman, and Feadship De Vries... The only thing I would say, is that they should publicize themselves more. They are in the process of extended their slipway to enable the construction of even larger vessels as the yard.
