Epic Journey

Hi There,

I was browsing through some yachting magazines and saw one Nordhavn ad which pictured a boat in southern Chile's icy waters against the Patagonian vistas and there it wrote something like "Everyone Should Make One Epic Journey"

This ad really took my breath away (I could not find it on the web to post here) and knocked me on the head for it reminded me what life was for. Now it is posted next to the fridge !

I am lucky for having made one unforgettable Epic Journey in Siberia (by train followed by dog sledding, snowbiking & driving around the frozen lake baikal :-) several years ago. But of course I want the next one in a boat (preferably in a sailboat).

Do you have such dreams ?

Have you done it ?

How did you find (or plan to find) time & crew if you have the resources ?

Do you know a reputable company which makes small adventure trips by boat so instead of waiting for years I could just live a 15-20 day mini adventure in 2010 or so (expecting a baby at home) ???

What I mean by Epic is ... (other than the dictionary definition)
- into the unknown
- somewhere really far
- with natural beauty

:-)

I recently had a related discussion with someone when he was surprised that I do most of my cruising on the eastern US coast. I've had many epic adventures both on the seas and upon land. With a baby on the way you may see your days of wonderlust disappearing. It's only so if you let it be. You live in an ancient land surrounded by ancient lands with seas that many can only dream about ever seeing. If your budget or time is limited look in your own back yard, and do it now not in "2010". Tomorrow never comes. There are many companies such as you mention. Just google "Adventure Tours" and I'm sure you'll be kept busy. But if adventure is in your heart you don't have to look very far or hard to find it. Buy or rent a small sailboat and cruise the Greek Isles. Look for Noah's arc. Need I say more. BTW, you've already got an epic adventure coming evidently. Good luck.

Hi Kreton:

You might check six threads down from this one--Mike Bach's 'Robert Swan Polar Explorer'.

Thank you, probably I did not write correctly, we are expecting a baby soon so there is not much I can (or will) do.

I caught that, which is why I pointed you closer to home. This blessed event doesn't have to kill your adventurer side. It can enhance it.
