A couple of years ago I was thinking of building one of our smallest boats as a "crashtest" boat to run in a couple of offshore races...

Just as a PR stunt, to be seen...maybe it is not too late

Oh and as to that boat running 90mph with only 1600hp at a dry weight of 16,000lbs...show me the GPS recall and I'll believe it.

I'm dubbing this one "G'tmo Action"

AMG;

Humor is one thing, but I'm out of my league on this one. So tell me, I notice lots of Dutch designs call for that downsloping windscreen at the helm. It's rather romantic in the context of high-speed, but I sure see the logic with the overhanging canopy. In this case, does this protrusion work like an automotive 'spoiler,' actually contributing to a downward force at the bow? What are the spray & wake characteristics of this hull as shown?

On this boat the arch is part of the structural integrity and the top speed is just about 60 mph. With the original hull we were running 95 mph twenty years ago. But this boat was only 80 kg (!) plus engine, fuel and the two of us. The engine was an offshore version of the OMC 300, turning out some 375 hp they said! Scary when you think of it, but the monohull boat was the best I have ever raced with, like a laser beam...

This windscreen that we have on all three models we produce at present, has no significant negative effect. A normal slooping windscreen is creating more downforce which gives a larger wetted surface and a slower boat. Our windscreens might have a lifting effect instead, but with increased air resistance. And air is softer than water after all.

With eight lifting strakes on the 26° deep V-hull, this boat is riding high and has very little spray and wake. Here at normal cruising speed just under 40 knots.

This, I can relate to

Aah, yes, the chines of freedom. Looks exactly like the water in Greers Ferry Lake, on a perfect day to slalom. She sits up and rides nicely. And, (in hindsight) that's what I meant, because the cabin clearly sits back of center, so it surely "lifts," and if anything just to help the chines do their magic, (at this speed.)

I'm not sure where to post this novel tidbit, but we seem to be on the topic of speed... Top speed! The wildest claim I've seen on any production vehicle, to date. Watch this video of the Bugatti 'Veyron'..

The XSR 48 is based on a hull similar to that of the Sunseeker XS2000, which in turn was based on a Fabio Buzzi raceboat hull. So they both have racing heratige going way back.

Sunseeker should have been the ones to build the expensive XSR 48.

I met with a friend today who was over in England in January for a test ride with the XSR. He used to drive the Sunseeker XS, but this one was a lot faster, equipped with Isotta Fraschini in race versions. They were running about 86 knots, almost 100 mph. He was very impressed by the acceleration after the second turbo kicked in. Boats with two-speed gearboxes will therefore remind of having four gears!

The "fenders" on the hull sides acted stabilizing at turns, almost to the point it felt like driving a Formula One car he said.

The hull is identical to a successful Buzzi race hull, but as such, not for everyone to play around with...

AMG are you refering to the characteristics of the hull or the high speeds involved?

The top speed was also questioned, how much would the two speed gearbox help with this?
