Is Paul Allen Buying the Zein

From Luxist:
Quote:
A little while back we wrote about Shadow Boats, boats that cart around the helicopters, speedboats, cars and other toys a megayacht owner needs so the main yacht doesn't get to cluttered. Now the Sunday Times reports that Paul Allen is running out of space on the Octopus. He is looking at the Zein, a the yacht which was where Prince Rainier and Princess Grace spent their honeymoon. It would be a sad end for such a lovely old yacht but the 535,000 euro purchase price makes the Zein a deal.

OK I didnt see this posted yet so I thought it was news. Anyone have more info on this yacht.

Thank you for this news! There was some discussion on Zein a while ago, for those who are not familiar with this yacht...

Maybe it's just me... but when one is running out of room on a 400'+ yacht and is considering a shadow boat... doesn't an old 147 footer seem kinda' small, defeating the purpose?

Why doesn't he just build a larger yacht?

You're not alone Kevin. The use of Zein as a Shadow for Octupus is like asking Sputnik to tail the Starship Enterprise.

Paul is well known for his philanthropic endeavors. My guess is... he's going to preserve a piece of yachting history. If this news is true, I have a pretty good idea where he learned about it.

So... I guess this is as good a time as any. Paul, you wanna chime in?

I'd say that would be a much more worthy endeavour.

If Octopus really is getting full, he could just buy Rising Sun and convert that into a hauler.

Whether the story is true or not. Lets hope someone, with the necessary amount of money can step in and restore her to her former glory. It would be tragic to lose this peice of yachting history.
