Today in Port Everglades

I was very disappointed by the lack of 'BIG' boats to show my parents who are visiting from england...... but then I see this.

Thanks for posting! I think the Rising Sun should be in these waters too?

But it doesn´t look like a nice place to stay really? The downside of having the largest yachts...

That's why he needs a 65' foot tender.

Hi Chris,

Thank for posting the picture I meant to get yesterday! I washed the boat, fueled up and then the weather turned for the worse.

It's hard to get good pic in the port these days. BSO seems to think it's a terrorist activity!

Two years ago, we lost an engine coming into the Port. I notified the harbor patrol we we're breaking away from the channel to hold position while trying to repair. We had BSO and the Marine Patrol all over us while trying to re-attach a popped water hose. I can understand that any vessel could be suspect, but on this particular day we had a bunch of bikinis onboard.... not exactly the profile of a prime suspect!

On another occasion, I was on the runabout trying to get pics of Alpha IV in the Port. As soon as I raised my camera, the Marine Patrol jumped on plane and started hailing me on the loud speaker, instructing me to put the camera away.

Port Everglades simply isn't the best place for yacht spotting. Maybe better for ship spotting.

funny

usually that is the case but on this occasion there was no sign of any authorities anywhere, I didn't push my luck and get any closer but a couple of other boats certainly did.

I did actually hear calls from rising sun on 16 as I was heading home.

Let's get back on topic...

So who's going to take their life in their hands and go for pics of Octopus and Rising Sun today? Apparently Kwikumat is in port as well.

Chris,

You're right about the lack of big boats in Lauderdale. I was at Bahia Mar on Saturday for a meeting with Warren Yachts. The marina wasn't filled to capacity like it usually is in January. Same goes for Pier 66 and the Marriot. I'm sure a good number of them are scattered around the Caribbean right now, but still... it seems strange.

I'm doing a sea-trial in Lauderdale tomorrow. Weather permitting, I'll try to get a couple of shots going out the Port.

We went out of Port Everglades for a seatrial this morning (about 0945 hrs) and Octopus was "hovering" in the middle of the turning basin recovering one of their tenders. Pretty impressive. The tender looked like she was close to 50 feet and was getting into position to be hauled up the stern rollers into the garage.
When we returned 45 minutes later Octopus was back in a slip on the east side of the cruise ship basin.
Didn't see Rising Sun or any other large yachts in the cruise ship basin.

Rising Sun is now in the port with Octopus, and Fortunate Son just pulled into bahia Mar with Te Manu, Azzura, Paraffin.
