40 to 50 foot dilemma

    Hello all. I previously posted a thread asking opinions regarding the Tiara 44 and an Azimut 46. Thank you for the feeback. We've ruled out the Tiara (as much I hated doing so) because we are looking for a Fly Bridge Cruiser to accomodate our Boating interests.

    I've done some research and really like the Ocean Alexander Altus 48 but still have the Azimut 46 as an option; especially since my wife is Italian and love the Glitziness of the boat. We are considering a 2004 48' Altus with Yanmar 500HP engines and a 2005 46' Azimut with Cat 500HP engines. Both have very low hours.

    Any thoughts, opinions and suggestions would be appreciated. Also, should we look at any other builders? Thanks :D

    Storebro 475 Commander

    Have a look at the Storebro Royal Cruiser 475 Commander.
    It is an exiting concept from the Swedeish manufacturer. The boat is classically elegant built and represents the newest techniques in boat building.

    The Commander has unmistakeable characteristics of a workboat with a low flying bridge, a sheltered companionway to the same and not least a safe and comfortable motion, so essential to the seaworthy long distance cruiser.

    Yes, but it's kind of... ugly, compared to an Azimut (personnal opinion of course)

    Ok , its a more timeless conservative design but I think the second hand value will be much better than these fancy spaceage designed yachts that look out of fashion allready next summer... :rolleyes:

    I have to admit the Azimut does look great at the dock. I couldn't figure out why it would have had so rocking back and forth when the broker got off the boat.

    So many decisions... I'm leaning towards the Ocean Alexander Altus.

    Not to make your decision harder but I would go for a more classic boat, like the Eastbay 47 FB... :cool:

    Fraid not as my source say. Not a Company dealer, maybe an importer.. but still, the new T50 is set to sail out the doors sometime soon... ...take a look. Looks good i think, following the sleek new look from the T60 !

    Thanks everyone. The Sealine is a pleasant surprise.

    Does anyone have opinions about it's stability and they handle in not so calm enviornments?

    Well the T50's hull is designed by the one and only Ocke Mannerfelt and is apparently extremely fast and stable, as is the new S29 and SC29 that he has done the hulls of. However, as yet there are no testing reports for the T50 as i believe it is still in build or possibly at sea trials.

    I will have photos from Southampton Boat show in mid september.

    But i do like the master cabin with the bed off to the port side facing inwards. It allows for a much larger master cabin. There was a short article in this months Motor Boat Monthly, Along with Sunseeker's new Manhatten 60, which is also set to make its debut at Southampton.

    The T-60 is a very nice yacht. The T-50 looks a little 'stubby'. Maybe it's the rendering that makes it look like that? I would rather go with the T-60. The skybridge is huge, extending almost all the way aft. Very good. :) :)

    Methinks all of the 50' and under flybridge designs struggle with that "stubby" problem to some degree? :cool:

    Even so, I would rather spend time on a flybridge than a sleek express in this size range. Drop down to mid 30 something and the express gets more attractive.

    Well tomorrow we're off to sea trial the Ocean Alexander Altus... will keep you posted. No Dealers for the Sealine :confused: not sure why they didn't have any dealers here???

    This leads me to: anyone interested in starting a dealership here in Florida?? :D

    I did find a few used 51Ts.. I would love to consider the 60, but we're not ready for something that large (1st boat) ... starting the Power Squadron courses in 3 weeks :) and starting to interview capitans for one-on-one sessions.

    With Sealine not having any dealers over in the US i think the issue is getting them there. The majority of Sealine's customers as i understand it are from Scandinavia, and Europe.

    Vikings would be a good boat to start, if you can afford them. Or even Fairline, the Phantom 46 for example is a nice looking craft inside and out.

    Gee...

    When and why did Sealine lose their dealership in the US? I had no idea Global stopped selling them.
