Yachting News from Greece

Here i will periodically put yachting news, usually casualty information recieved from the Greek Authorities. I will put my own comments below the reports if necessary. yeh it is ok just comment in the thread. some interesting stuff comes up occasionally.

28/Jul/05 - BANDAN

A Salvage vessel of the Kos Coast Guard, located during the afternoon at the island of Syrna (18nm from Astipalaia) 37 illegal immigrants. Continuing the search the vessel located at the opposite side of the island the sailing yacht BANDAN (Flag Italy) with 4 persons on board (2 men, 2 women) that were arrested on suspicion of transporting the immigrants. All 41 persons were transported with the assistance of fishing vessels to the island of Astipalaia. Meanwhile were located 3 further immigrants by an Air Force helicopter that were transported to Kos and received medical attention at the local hospital. Kos Port authority is carrying out an investigation.

27/Jul/05 - GOIN GOIN GONE

During the evening of 27/Jul/05, Catamaran GOIN GOIN GONE (St. Vincent Flag) grounded in sandy shallow waters off Ammoglossa, Kos island. Immediately proceeded to the area a patrol boat of the Coast Guard which then supervised the yacht from the sea and additionally a Coast Guard vehicle monitored the situation from the land. On board the yacht were 7 persons who remain in good health. The yacht had previously departed from Symi with destination Kos. With the assistance of a tug the yacht was refloated and arrived safely at Kos.

30/Jul/05 FRATELLI

During the afternoon a passenger from yacht FRATELLI was injured while the yacht was making an astern movement. At the time of the incident the yacht was in the sea area off the rocky islets of Polyfados Megistis Kastellorizo. The injured was transported to the port of Megistis and taken to the local hospital but due to the seriousness of the injuries was transported by Super Puma helicopter to the Andreas Papandreou hospital of Rhodes.

01/Aug/05

GESIRA

During the evening of 01/Aug/05, yacht GESIRA (Flag Italy) grounded in sandy shallow waters off Levkimmis, Kerkyra island. On board were 8 passengers who are good in health. Immediately a coast guard patrol boat proceeded to the area to offer assistance. Later the yacht refloated under own menas and was escorted by the coast guard to the port of Levkimmis.

02/Aug/05

SPETSES M.

During the morning of 02/Aug/05, while sailing off Ag. Minas, Karpathos island, yacht SPETSES M (UK Flag) hit a reef and sank. The 2 crewmembers and 8 passengers who are good in health, were collected from the yacht. The sinking did not cause pollution.
