Yacht falls from cargo in Barcelona

Incredible, ...... but real!!!!

Today, just after placing a nice and brand new Astondoa 102' on the deck of the "Scan Bothnia" cargo, .... the lines broke and the boat has fallen from 15 mts heigth (50ft), and sunk in the water of the Port of Barcelona......

Incredible,....

Boat was built for Rodriguez Group SNP Boat Service, and was going to be sent to the new owner.

It is few things that are as sad to see as a sunken boat...

Hi,

I only found this photo in the web page of a newspaper in Barcelona.
If any other photo appears I'll post it.

Also, I'd like to post better news, but that's life.

I know very well Astondoa and Rodriguez Group, and all the people involved in the construction and sale of this yacht must be really, really sad.

As Techmati said the only happy people in this case are: lawyers and surveyors.

I'm thinking how owner, broker and builder feel today.

Really sad!!!!!

Got some internal informations.
The lines in the dimensions of 2 x 210 tons = 420 Tons broke.
The Yachts weight was only 95 tons.???

and it was a Wedding Present !!!!

Sorry no more photos because all where afraid about the big splash and jumped away.

Every yachts element is the water but please a little bit slower next time.

Is a floating transport a better solution ?? We will see.

Well, at least there is a photo.
I want to see how that is brought off. I bought you a wedding present, honest I did, I really didn't forget! But honestly they dropped in in the water and it broke. No really, it was a nice boat and yes it was supposed to float. No. I wouldn't have bought a boat for you that was designed to sink and drown you!

Dear Crewagency, ... interesting information regarding this terrible fact.

I didn't know about lines capacity, but I'm sure that yacht weigth was around 90-95',... I can't understand how or why did it happened.

However, I've been told today that boat felt from cargo deck, and lines broken were those used to keep the yacht fixed to deck (??). It seems that the people from the crane told the captain that yacht was not well attached to deck, ... and then.... it happened....

I was not there so I don't know really what happened, .. in any case a nigthmare for a sad husband.... (very good Codger).

one question that i have is does the yacht have any value now? I am talking about salvage and rebuilding. is it a total loss or not?

I don't think any surveyor would be happy seeing things like this...

A real pity for all the manhours invested.

I once surveyed a refit of a sunken ship, it was no joke. The fuel and luboil go everywhere. All insulation to be replaced. All the cables sticky with fuel (very hard to remove). All equipment to be taken out, cleaned, dried and retested (or replaced). And worst of all, an owner trying to do everything as cheaply as possible.

With a yacht, it's even worse, as the interior is mostly made of wood and to be replaced totally.

There is an interesting article in the January issue of Boat International titled "An Owner's Guide to Yacht Insurance" and there is a picture of this yacht (very similar angle but without the fence in front of it). It is interesting how the boat has been on the forums and then it shows up in a magazine.
