Erie Canal

The Erie Canal opened April 28/12 three days early this year. The first boats through were two tugs and barges with 3 old war airplanes on them. They say the Troy town docks are not operational this year because of the storm last year but the Canal is providing barges to tie up to free of charge. It seems like it would be easier to just fly them to their destination. Any idea on where they're going or who owns them?

Im not a pilot, but it looks like some of those airframes are extremely old and may not have been airworthy for decades.

The barge run up the Hudson from the Intrepid to their new home near Albany seems to make sense.

If I were a deck hand on that barge, I know I would have to give into temptation and sit in the MiG cockpit. That is a perk of perks.....
