Wow!! I did not notice that until you pointed that out. Sure I saw it before but never made the connection with "Sycara IV".

Aaron, I tried to call you, but AT&T is giving me no bars here.

Tom, Burger had already contracted Neil to shoot Sycara. If it was up to me, you would be hanging from a harness out of heli.

At my age, I'm lucky to see the keys! At your age, you're lucky to find 'em!

I deserved that, and resemble that statement.

Logging on from the lobby at the Best Western in Manitowoc. It's about 6:00 AM and I'm on my 2nd cup of go-juice. Manitowoc has a rich history in shipbuilding and Burger is a big part of it. A lot of things were built by Burger around here, most notably... an economy. Burger is one of the largest employers in the area, along with Manitowoc Crane. This has provided generations of skilled welders in the area.

Meeting with Ron Cleveringa, Burger's Marketing Director, this morning for a tour of YF's mascot. Will post pictures of Manitowoc and maybe a few details shots of Sycara when I get back to S. FL.

Carl

Matter of fact, a lot of things were built by Burger here

In the late 1970's, a friend of mine kept his 52' Chris Connie in Ft Lauderdale at a home on Royal Plaza Dr. The homeowner was a friend (investor?) of Burger. His home had a magnificent set of aluminum gates on the driveway, he said were built for him by Burger.

Hi all,

It's about 10:00 PM and I just boarded an airship out of Atlanta. Next waypoint is Palm Beach. I'm returning to write about a resurrection. The dawn of a new era in old world craftsmanship. Sycara is a perfectly executed statement that instills a sense of wonder... and accomplishment.

The official running shots, taken by Neil, were released to the media today. I'll post the Press Release in the morning and add a couple of detail shots to this thread, but I would like to wait until we finish our editorial before presenting Sycara.

Have to turn off electric devices according to the air waitress. Night all!

Its so nice to see the old folk get out and about. (Sorry Carl).

This is one project I really look forward to seeing. Burger has been through some rough times over the years but this one makes a statement of intent for the future.

I cannot wait to see the pics.

On the day I toured Sycara, she was mostly covered in plastic wrap and blue tape as two-dozen technicians finalized last minute tweaks. She is scheduled for final delivery in the next few days. The interior pics I took don't show her in the best light. Actually, I had NO light for most of the shots, but they are good enough to jog my memory for editorial. For now, I'm posting a few exterior shots.

Neil hasn't finished shooting the boat. The fly deck pictures will be taken next week. After that, I should have the full image suite. Still have a couple of weeks of writing before going live.

Here's a shot of the Wheelhouse...

Just about every piece of wood on Sycara is carved from a 5 axis router. The fit and finish of Burger's interior's are legendary, but computer aided design and production has taken this to a higher level. Although these routers could carve ornate / decorative items such as this bow scroll, the programming time is probably not cost effective. The bow scroll is one of the few things done the old fashioned way on Sycara...

One of the drawbacks to a fantail is the inability to dock stern-in, euro style. The engineers at Burger solved this problem with a drop away transom and a Nautical Structures retractable gangplank...
