Fastest Sportsfish?

Who builds the fastest Sportfisher? Or, the Most Fuel Efficient? (50+ Feet)

I'd like to know that answer in a 43-50' boat.

Fastest sportfisher I know of is the 70' Jarrett Bay which runs on twin MTU 2400 hp engines, totaling 4800 hp. It apparently tops out at 48 kts, and cruises around 40 kts. I have a video of it running from a fishing tournament I was in, if anybody really wants to see it let me know. here are some links:

There isn't "one" sportfish boat that is the fastest, in my opinion. There are many factors to consider when buying a "fast" SF. I agree that the 70' Jarrett Bay is extremely fast, but then again, there was a 63' Hines Farley that was extremely fast several years ago. Then there's an older 60' Jim Smith, repowered with 1360 HP MAN's that no one wanted to race at the "Custom Boat Shootout" if the ocean was calm. I've also been on the 61' Tribute, ex. Speed Merchant 46.8 kts with only 1150 HP MTU's. If speed is the only consideration, Tribute is a good choice. If, however, you want speed and ride, I think that Jarrett Bay, Spencer, and my personal favorite, F&S are three that I would consider in customs for speed and seakeeping ability. I'm sure there are some great small custom builders that offer the same. Hightower marine will be launching their first 63' SF next month. I'll be there for the sea trial and report back.

The Hatteras 60 GT I think is the fastest production sport fish at 45kts.

I agree, fastest all around or in a sea are two totally different things. There is also a 57' Revenge called "cookie too" that boat supposedly does 50 knots+ with twin MAN 1100 common rails and the boat is a 1987ish but built out of Carbon Fiber.

I've had the pleasure of working on a 75' Jim Smith SF and it was pretty fast with a 35 knot cruise and 44 knot tops........

TurbineTecSystems is claiming they set up a 92' Lydia capable of 58mph.

Wasn't there a late 1980's or early 1990's Monterey named Renegade that was 53 kt or so? Maybe more? If memory serves, she was about 80'.

This 92 Lydia was built as DOUBLE ESPRESSO by Mike and Eric Petosa. I sold her to a buyer (name witheld) that named her ONE MORE TIME. She was captained by Joe Swenson, and then Timmy Hyde. I was on her at 53 MPH with the jets running, but we blew a hot section on one of the jets. Teddy Turbine was on the boat that day. Toughest thing was keeping reduction gears in one piece. Jets were removed. Last I heard she was bought at sheriff's sale 7-8 years ago and is living in Miami.

It seems the next step for Volvo Penta with the IPS system is the sportfish market. This will certainly change the economics as to range and fuel consumption. The company boat is a Riviera 51, with triple IPS 600's. It was in the Big Rock Tournament recently. Larger horsepower packages will be available next year.

Yup! She was owned by a Texan who's name escapes me, but James Roberts was his Captain, I believe Don Gemmell was the first mate. What a great professional team! They had a 54' Bertram prior to the Monterey.
