If memory serves correctly, Marlena was originally launched at 98'. She was designed in part by her original owner Sam Gershowitz. Sam owns the Star Island Yacht Club in Montauk, New York. A few seasons after the initial launch she was refitted to 126'. I'm not certain of the details of when or who completed the refit, but I'm certain she was originally 98'. Marlena was the talk of the harbor when she arrived in Montauk. No one had seen a sport fisher that large before and appeared monolithic while perched at the end of her custom redesigned slip at Star Island. I remember the factoid that made all the locals stammer wasn't her speed or her displacement but rather that she could produce 400 pounds of ice an hour!
Since her sale, Sam has downgraded (relatively) to 64' Viking. Rumor was she was too large to really be an effective fishing boat. Many of the locals were glad to see her go, but I was always awestruck when I caught the site of her heading out from the jetti or returning after spending several days in the canyons.
