Vaudrey Miller's Whimsy

Whimsy is a small, sleek and fast sloop designed by Philippe Briand and built by Vaudrey Miller. She features a composite construction that makes her both light and strong. Whimsy is a sailers' dream to own and take for a wind-filled spin around the coast or in the deep blue. Owing to her composite construction, she is light and fast.

Phillipe Briand as the designer summed up the yacht by saying that "Whimsy’s displacement is on the performance side of moderate and for a comprehensively equipped cruising yacht she is relatively light." The reasons for a composite construction are clear but in case one is not technically savvy here is an explanation...

"Carbon fibre offered big performance gains and it was judiciously used in the chain plates, inner deck laminate and the rig where it contributed most by minimizing the structure and weight above the waterline. E-glass was chosen as the primary hull laminate because it transmits less noise and reduces condensation, and is relatively easy to repair should hull damage be sustained in remote locations."

The carbon fiber and E-glass construction offers a light and sturdy yacht that can still be classed to ABS as well as be agile enough to be a performance sailer.

The exterior deck regions are just as amazing. Whimsy's deck features a surprisingly clutter-free exterior with flush-hatches and color coded sailing related hardware. Aside from this clean slate, the social cockpit holds a clean and contemporary area. A teak seating region is lined with plush bright yellow cushions inviting persons to the foldable composite table.

The social cockpit, located just to the fore of the dual navigation stations can be covered with a bimini to keep guests in the shade while relaxing. In performance sailing mode, all of the accessories of the social cockpit can be stored away to aid in a performance of the sloop.

The layout of the Whimsy has been customized with relaxation and accessibility in mind. Whimsy's layout has been arranged for the purpose of relaxed day-to-day living. It also is geared and optimized towards socializing by utilizing emphasis on space to the saloon rather than the master cabin and forward guest cabins. The crew region has been positioned in the aft section of the yacht. This separates the crew from the saloon as not to disturb guests. The two spaces are separated by the galley.

The guest cabins have been well furnished and await the weary passenger. In private use, the crew area can be transformed into a third guest area for when the family wants to sail the Whimsy with friends.

In summation, the Whimsy is a sleek, fast and reliable sloop that can perform as well as provide. She can provide an intimate yet luxurious atmosphere yet when called to sail more seriously the accessories can be trimmed and sailing speed galore can be had. Manufactured from carbon fiber and E-glass, the Whimsy presents a light and strong vessel while sharing luxury and intimacy.
