Joe
Thanks for the info & link to your site. Will Mirabella V ever grace the Connecticut shoreline? I had the pleasure of visiting one of your other Mirabellas while in Greenwich many years ago.
p.s. If you don't have any sons, I would make myself available for adoption |

Not so fast Dave...I am one of his sons, this is Joe jr speaking.
I am afraid that there is no chance of M5 ever making it to Greenwich. Two reasons:
1) Not enough charter business on the East Coast for this type of boat, and she needs to work.
2) Anti-Polution requirements for visiting US waters now make it too expensive to enter US waters...we probably won't even go to USVI anymore. Once you are over 500t they go silly with the regs...it's a real shame, but they don't care.

LOL Hey, I thought I'd try. It's too bad there are so many regulations that deter yachts like yours from entering the USA

Hi Joe, very interesting to hear from someone so close to the project. Just curious - what sort of anti-pollution regs do US waters have that you can't meet?
And don't let anyone harp on you about being a 'ragboat', where does that come from anyway? Didn't realize I was on "Motor Yacht Forums"...

We meet or exceed the anti-pollution rules on board, but it's the other stuff that makes it difficult.
Once you are over 500t the US treats you like a ship. You need to have extra polution cover on insurance. You have to pay a pollution clean-up specialist to be on standy-by to come to your immediate assistance should a spillage occur (so it's expensive). My view is that the US doesn't really understand superyachts, and doesn't really want to, so it doesn't make it easy for them to stop by. I understand that you may need to mop up after a cruise ship comes by, but I am not sure that M5 is going to cause a big mess.

Mirabella V:
Too bad about the pollution requirements.
Yes, the U.S. is stupid about some of it's laws.
But, we've got a great legal system to avoid some of them!
In a serious vein, there was the 10% sales tax rule of 1990 as well as the 10-90 ruling here in Florida ( which allowed a recently sold yacht to remain in state waters for an extended period of time for repairs/refit), both of which came to be as a result of pure economics---- the government was losing out on income by curtailing what yachtsmen could/couldn't do.
In the end, the almighty (well, it's shrunk some lately) dollar speaketh loudly!

Hi Joe,
Since MV was put to water it has instantly become my favourite.
That is strange for 2 reasons.
1. It isn’t Dutch
2. it’s a composite
The boat is as impressive as it is beautiful and that's an achievement considering the overall length.
The video is nice, but the buffering is a little big. Looking at it in Holland and it made my 2 weeks old VAIO duo core notebook stall 2 times in a row.
Maybe converting to streaming video would help.
In case you would like to show off the boat for charter customers I would advise a virtual tour.
You can se our work at our website. We produce tours for the Mulder Shipyard and Nordia ao.
Since MV is my favourite yacht I would really like to make you an excellent offer.
I think I speak for all YF members when I say that everyone would like to have a good look aboard.
You can drop me an email if you would like to have more information.
Regards,

| MV short video.
Mirabella V video. She is impressive under sail...very very quick. And to think that the Maltese Falcon is faster than her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUY4C...elated&search= Very scary heeling sometimes. She is a beautiful beast weighing 1004 tonnes.

"Mirabella V's", little sister was just successfully sold. "Mirabella" was up for sale through Camper Nicholson and was sold for around 2.9-Million.
