Yes I had,
To start with I had a steep learning curve. After I bought it, a sailing friend came along for the first part of the trip. He set the sails and took the rudder for a couple of hours, then he took the boat into a pier where he jumped ashore and left me and my girlfriend alone under sail for the first time in my life. Apart from some dinghy-sailing.
So we sailed out in the open sea, a trip of more than 100 miles to the island of Gotland. And back. Many small incidents happened, but we learned a lot...!
Next summer we raced a couple of times, but the RORC-rule the boat was built for, changed to IOR and our chances to win disappeared.
We kept her some years but bought a Coronet 21 Daycruiser to be able to get out a little quicker in the archipelago, and finally we sold the sailing boat.
This was in the early seventies, and since then there has been both motor and sailing boats. Maybe it is time for a motor-sailer soon

Sailing Ships

Here in Sweden we have a lot of old sailing ships, both steel and wood, which are restored and in use. Many of them are doing charter, often day charter and I see them passing under sail almost every day. Here are two I snapped yesterday:

Giant Trimarans

As a bright contrast to the above ships, we have now got a number of these gigantic and superfast trimarans. They are cruising above 20 knots easely, and when you are suddenly overtaken in your family cruiser by a completely silent giant sailer, it can be a real shock

Those trimarans look impressively fast.
They make me remember the movie Waterworld.

Mari-Cha 4

Mari-Cha 4 is a modern 140' monohull that is said to be capable of 40 knots speeds,
She has been built to be the fastest monohull in the world and break records.
Not as fast as a multihull can be, but not so far.

Take a look: www.mari-cha4.com

I have tried to visit the site
www.mirabellayachts.com

I always get the following message:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Apache/1.3.26 Server at mirabellayachts.com Port 80

I had no difficulties to visit www.mirabellacharters.com and most other sites in the web.
Just to be shure that it was not a local problem with my desktop, I asked 3 friends from 3 different companies in Rio de Janeiro and all they experienced the same issue I did.

I sent an email to Jacqui Beadon from Mirabella Yachts, that answered that it seemed to be no problems with the site.

I'm curious about this issue, and I'll appreciate if someone can try to visit that site and tell me what happens.

I had no problems to enter the site. There I got hooked on an anchor story (!) and will look forward to hear what the anchor had to do with Mirabella V:s recent incident...

But what I like the most among the Mirabella fleet is the Grumman seaplane

AMG,

Thank you for your feedback about Mirabella site.

My internet provider support services say that Mirabella site server probably is bloking a range of IP addresses. I asked for the same test to a friend in Sao Paulo, that was well succeded. So there must be a problem related to Rio de Janeiro.

I'll do some more research with other providers in Rio.

@yacht forums:
I think the yacht you spotted at palm beach (18.9.2004) was the Perini Navi yacht Legacy ( 48,16 M ).

http://www.perininavi.it/Uk/flotta.html

Her owner comes from the USA (source:"Boote Exklusiv" September 2002)

There are only two further perini navi yachts with two circular portholes on the main deck and a black coloured hull.

The 184 ft Burrasca and the 142 ft Ohana, but they are under a different flag.

I have to complete my post:

there is also the yacht Santa Maria with two circular portholes on the main deck and a black hull. But she is with 56 m (184 ft ) to big for the boat on the picture.

Does anyone has photos about the 32m Jongert Red Sula? perhaps she has a new name... I "googled" through the I-net. But I didn't have found photos. Some renderings only.

She was built for the chairman of the board of directors of the Volkswagen AG (VW). Ferdinand Piech. He sold her. Now he owns a Swan 45.
