Sail Yachts in Build and launched

A number of sail yachts are currently in build and are at various stages of construction. A few will launch very soon and some won't be launched until the next year so here is a short compilation of what I have found so far.

Vitters has a 45-meter fast performace sloop in build for launch in 2011.

Vitters also have the 45-meter "Lady B" which will launch pretty soon. (2009)

Royal Huisman has a 49-meter ketch-rigged yacht in build for 2011.

Royal Huisman 36-meter classic for 2012.

Massive 67-meter ketch in build by Baltic Yachts for 2010 launching.

28-meter gunboat catamaran for launch in 2010.

Locally, Alloy Yachts, Yachting Developments and Fitzroy Yachts have sailing superyachts underway. I see that Alloy have a no name 67 metre ketch starting in build for a 2011 launch which would be their biggest project. They are also finishing the new Kokomo sloop for a oft repeat customer and a new version Imagine - both Ed Dubois designs. YDL are doing another Dubois (121')in composites as well as a 100" Warwick Cat. Fitzroy have the new Salperton [#IV] close to launch, a 50 metre Dubois sloop for 2010 and a Ted Fontaine design called Northwind that is also about completed I think.

I can only imagine that none of these reputable companies have a lineup of people begging for forward build slots as may have been the case a short few years ago but I guess their saviour will necessarily have to be a continuing ability to offer comparative quality with Europe's best at a competitive price. The exotic spar manufacturers, sail makers and specialist marine interior contractors continue to get international superyacht business from offshore yards as well so they appear to be somewhat OK at present.

Yes Blair, thank you for your wisdom and additions to the thread. I do know about many of those vessels in build to which you refer.

Many 2009 delivered sail yachts have been nominated in the ISS awards. "Baracuda", "Ethereal", "Inmocean", "Mondango" and "Saudade" are the nominees in the 40-meter and above category.

Yachting Developments is building a 121-foot Dubois designed fast cruising sloop and it is to launch sometime late 2009. Any of our New Zealand members have any information of this build?

Sorry Brian, haven't been following things too much lately but timing would suggest it is either launched and in the commissioning phase or is about to be wetted. I'll wander down to the Viaduct Basin in the next few days. [Fell in love (again!) with Endeavour when I last was there.]
